"Naples of the East": The Frigate Shisaka

Today, we would like to tell you about the main prize in the “Naples of the East” event — the powerful Japanese ‘Kaibokan’; Shisaka!

Shisaka, Japanese Frigate, Rank V, Event Vehicle

At a glance:

  • Powerful main caliber of three 120mm guns
  • Sixteen 25 mm cannons to combat boats and aircraft
  • A large number of depth charges
  • Low speed

Historical background

The patrol ship (according to the Japanese classification; ‘Kaibokan’) Shisaka of the Hiburi class, was laid down on August 21st, 1944 and completed by the end of the same year.

By the end of World War II it patrolled the waters near Tokyo Bay, after the war it was decommissioned from the fleet, and then transferred to the Republic of China and renamed Huian. Whilst with the ROC, the ship was captured and entered the first naval formation of the People’s Liberation Army of China, but on April 28th, 1949, it was sunk by B-24 bombers of the ROC.

In 1953, Huian was raised, repaired and rearmed. It remained in the PLA fleet until 1990, after which it was decommissioned and dismantled.

Meet Shisaka!

The main prize in the “Naples of the East” event will be the Japanese frigate Shisaka, one of the most powerful coastal fleet ships in the game. Three 120 mm guns, a large battery of 25 mm cannons and a huge number of depth charges! The slow but ruthless Shisaka is ready to join the battle for dominance in the coastal waters of War Thunder!

Shisaka will become a sister ship of the frigate Syonan, already well known to experienced captains, a real annihilator in the coastal fleet. The main advantage of Shisaka will be its excellent versatile armament.

Firstly, the ship carries a powerful main caliber array of three universal 120 mm guns in two mounts. These guns fire two types of high-explosive shells — standard contact fuse and timed fuse — these guns are effective against all vessels up to the light cruiser class in regards to the bluewater fleet, while boats and some small ships can be sunk with a single well-aimed salvo.

Secondly, Shisaka has an impressive arsenal of automatic cannons, sixteen 25 mm guns, ten barrels can be trained on surface targets from each side of the ship! These guns are the best solution to the problem of annoying nimble boats trying to sneak up on you, these boats will quickly perish under the dense automatic fire. The cannons also work well against aircraft, so Shisaka can cover your allies with anti-aircraft fire at short distances. Additionally, the new Japanese ship has an impressive stock of depth charges with six depth charge mortars and two stern ramps. While more of a niche weapon, these 160 kilogram depth charges can still be effective assistants at very close ranges.

Interesting - at the time of its decommissioning in 1990, Shisaka, renamed Huian, was not only the oldest active ship of the PLA, but also one of only three surviving ships from the Imperial Japanese Navy!

Like Syonan, Shisaka’s mobility is not the vessel’s strongest feature. The speed is 36 km/h in realistic and just over 50 km/h in arcade modes, which is generally quite tolerable, but against the flurry of small fast boats it may seem insufficient. Still, the main trump cards of Shisaka will be its powerful weapons and good survivability, the frigate can effectively capture and defend control points, discouraging enemy torpedo boats and very effectively hitting targets at distances inaccessible to most ships of the coastal fleet.

You can get the mighty Shisaka absolutely free by completing tasks during the special event “Naples of the East”, which will begin soon. Don’t miss the chance to strengthen your Japanese naval lineups and get access to this powerful coastal frigate!

Please note that this vehicle’s characteristics may be changed before it is added to the game.

Are we going to see a use for these in the near future?

So, why the clown camo still?

The word impressive should never be used in the same sentence as the jap 25mm AA gun.

Quantity does not make up for Quality and the jap 25mm showcases that. You can have over 100 barrels of it and still not shoot down an aircraft.

Naval Arcade aiming is still ruined. This will be the first event that I will ignore in years. And it’s even a Naval event, which I used to love grinding out. Loved the 2x boost to points, and loved all the extra SL’s I would get to then burn on the next SL crate event.

You still have not said one word to us about the unwanted aiming changes. 0 communication. Very very sad that the team would treat players and paying customers with such disregard.

Goodbye Naval. I will miss you.

Just play realistic.

For the hundredth time, no. I do not enjoy playing Realistic. On any game mode: air, land, or sea. So again, no. I will not; it’s that simple 😉

The only use for that is to be an extra ammo rack for opponent to shoot at, simple as.

Yeah, this is gunna be a literal powder keg

I too enjoy Arcade mode a lot more than RB(overall), BUT . . . once I got the aiming in RB naval down(set distance correction to MMB/scroll wheel) everything changed.
It was like magic was bestowed upon me.

Of the 3 vehicle types, the difference between AB & RB is the least different in naval. Both modes are relatively slow(Coastal can be speedy) but the differential is slight compared to tanks & planes.
It took just a short while to adapt to the new aiming, and once I was comfortable with it, everything changed for me. I now play RB for naval and enjoy it a good deal.
With that aiming you get a lot closer to the old Arcade aiming, just different reticle looks and more accuracy. And you get to lead and adjust for enemy ship movements and it is quite a bit more fun than any naval I played in the past.

I would just suggest giving that part a try, see if you can get accustomed to the aiming and not just give up on naval.

Just my opinion, but as a long time Arcade player, I was able to make the transition easy enough.
I for one do not think one mode is any better than the other, not elitism here.
Just seems like people should play what they enjoy . . . it’s a game, have fun.

There are a LOT of options and things to do . . . give it a try, if you still don’t like it, at least you know what is available . . . things may change in the future . . who knows?

I can play Realistic very well, very capably. I am good to very good with Naval Realistic Aiming. The problem is I just do not enjoy playing modes without markers. Blah blah blah people will say “oh but you can click and MAKE it a marker in Air and Naval!” No, its not the same. I have to squint at pixels for most of the match and spend most of my time looking around with my single pair of eyeballs when in “Real life” there would be multiple crew members (as in a ground unit) or HUNDREDS of pairs of eyes in a naval battle. Even in an air battle in real life, there are friendly air units helping, and radar assisting you to find enemies.

Forcing me to use my single pair of eyeballs, on a computer screen with a narrow field of view, with a relatively low resolution compared to the human eyeball Is NOT “Realistic” (even 4k is PATHETIC compared to our eyes in real life)

SO, in my very honest opinion, “Realistic” modes are NOT realistic. They are a fantasy where you are playing a digital version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. I do not enjoy it. Period, never have, never will.

IF they had a mode where the performance of the vehicles was set to “Realistic” conditions, BUT kept the markers from Arcade, that would be all that I would play. IE, the way Ground RB used to be before they ruined it with this unrealistic eyes closed nonsense.

Current “Realistic” should be SIm, and realistic should be with the nerfed/realistic vehicle performance, but with “arcade” markers.

I am beyond fatigued with most people saying on repeat “dur hur hur, just play Realistic!!!” No, I will not. I will not play something I simply do not enjoy. It has nothing to do with my skill, or understanding of the mode. I simply do not enjoy it. So, I will simply not play it. Which again, for the 100th time means Naval is ruined for me. That is it. The hundreds of $'s I spend, and hours I put in grinding are worthless for me now in Naval. Thanks @ Team.

Cheers.

PS:
And of note, they wont even give me the ability to use the old aiming system! WHY NOT??? Everyone “thinks” that I would be at a disadvantage, so, what is the point of forcing me to use this HORRID arcade aiming system if you think I wouldn’t even have an advantage by using the old system??? It makes no sense! OR just let me use Realistic Aiming that they disabled for Naval Arcade. Absolutely mind boggling how much they ruined it, without even giving us old players any options to use the old system.

Time and money wasted below. I am still deeply offended by how everyone associated with the Company has ignored me and the others who detest the change to aiming. Especially with how much money I threw at Naval to support a mode that I loved, before they completely ruined it for me:

I even purchased these two vehicles that I had missed on the Marketplace to use in my Naval lineups. I will probably never use them now:

What about the SL gains? They are better in RB… But I suppose that’s not enough to overcome your lack of enjoyment in this mode (I had to ask, since I saw your post numerous times).

I suppose your best hope is a new “Roadmap” if you want the changes to be reverted.
