But it’s still a double standard, and thus you can’t be surprised that people are angry about this. USSR is also a huge, powerful, competitive, popular tree. Did they need the 2S38? I’d say no. Certainly if “has to be in service” is a requirement…
We’re talking about the same subtree that includes a T-72, a Leopard 2, a 2S1, and a BTR-80. Uniqueness went flying out the window a long time ago.
It REALLY didnt. Itally has a bunch of its own homegrown unique IFV’s they couldve added but didnt, and already has a spike launching IFV ingame as well. They even have more rank 7 vehicles than germany lmao
if I recall they sent 3 Leo2AVs, one with a 105 another with a 120 and the third could have the gun switched, not easily but it was made in a way they could swap it the AV was a version of the Leo 2 made for the US trials, the PT-19 was made to be capable of taking a 120mm if the US so wished to do so to it, anyway not the point of this topic, yall have the PUMA and the KF41 is an export vehicle given to a nation that now has a subtree of an actual user, of this had not happened then the german tree would have gotten it, but since it is how it is deal with the end result, also spikes rn are frankly bad
They sent 2 hulls and 3 turrets. The vehicle we have in the game however is not any of them (it just shares a name). It’s an amalgamation - the ballistic hull sent to US was just that, a ballistic hull, it couldn’t drive. The other hull sent over didn’t have armour mounted - notice how the ingame one can do both?
Using previous precedents, it is irrelevant whether Germany operates the Lynx or not;
Challenger 2E is a primary contradiction of it.
It was made purely for export, and isn’t used by UK. Yet, they get it anyways because they created it.
The concept of trees being focused on single nations is not fit for purpose anymore. Gaijin implicitly recognises it by creating these merged trees, so they can populate them with content. There are plenty of Italian vehicles yet to be added, but we have no clue what their pipeline is for this stuff, so let’s just take it at face value. They wanted to populate the Italian tree (which is urgently needed). Adding Hungary adds vehicles to the Italian tree at multiple ranks, not just Rank 7. But because Lynx happens to be part of the package, Italian Rank 7 also gets a boost even if maybe it was the rank that less needed it (or that needed something else). Looked at it holistically, for the whole tree, it makes sense.
That said, the decision on which vehicle goes where is clearly made ad-hoc by Gaijin. They break their own rules all the time. That’s why people feel understandably a little aggravated.
The Soviet tree being big has never stopped Gaijin from introducing vehicles that were arguably unneeded at this time and that were not even operated by the VSRF. Thus, keeping the Lynx exclusive to Hungary because Germany doesn’t use it, is not consistent with this logic.
Uniqueness is not a factor either because the Italian+Hungarian tree has a non trivial amount of copypaste in it already anyway. No uniqueness there to preserve.
From what I have seen the nations that can get this ingame via a connection with the user are the US and UK, not including Italy since they already have it and might buy it themselves soon, Germany has the PUMA which will have a second version added with spikes so you will have 2 PUMAs so be happy with that, that is it my headache is not fun and my facts are a bit blurred due to it, end point is that the germans will not get it, the US and UK have more of a right to get the KF41 than germany
What are you smoking? Germany built it for export. How in the holy heck is that ANY different than any other nations export tanks being in THEIR tech trees?
PT19/T19 (sent to the US) was mainly created to improve protection after the Yom-Kippur war made Germany realise that having no armour is not viable anymore. US requirements were also a factor. The 105mm gun was switched to the 120mm in the US after trials were over, to show that the tank is already prepared to receive the gun. The 2AVs were never meant purely for export and were more of a next stage in Leopard 2 development.
From what I have seen the nations that can get this ingame via a connection with the user are the US and UK, US and UK have more of a right to get the KF41 than germany
US & UK have no claims to KF41 Lynx in the slightest (especially the UK), for one it wasn’t chosen by Australia (instead they chose the AS21 Redback), and two - based on M1A1 AIM ending up in the US tree, it’s quite clear this one would go to Germany.
Thirdly, what stuff are you smoking? I want 150 pounds of it. The nation that created it has a weaker claim to it than 3 nations that never touched it?
Besides the fact US has their own special variant that isn’t the KF41 that is currently being built.
the company is German, sure, but they did not test it
with your statement you are saying germany should get f15, f/a 18, f20 because they tested and evalauted them, and again britain didnt use the challenger 2e or vickers mbt 7 themnself or tested it, they are specialy made for export as well
well yeah the vickers and 2E are only in the UK tree because the operators are not ingame, and also to reply to @FurinaBestArchon , the KF41 was offered to the aussies but it was not chosen, and right now from what I know Rheinmetall and Raytheon are working together to offer the KF41 to the US, and they were one of the two vehicles that was selected, germany did not in an official capacity test the KF41 for their army if you can disprove this do provide a source please
Edit: also the F/A-18s that were offered if I recall were the E/F models, and this is the first time I hear of the F-15 being offered to the Germans, I got no clue about the F-20(F-5G) tho it would be neat to see it ingame no matter where it is added
Eh, not really relevant either way. Gaijin has no hard and fast rule about which vehicle goes where. And in a way, it makes sense. Game balance should always come first. But the way they go about it is guaranteed to cause issues and double standards. This isn’t a German main thing, and you know it, any other playerbase would have gotten just as upset (and has in the past) because of the perceived unfairness of the selection.
Now, I’m a German main, but I have no strong attachment to nation-based tech trees (in fact I think it’s high time we moved past them), and most important of all, I have no interest in playing top tier myself. So, I don’t have a dog in this fight. No matter what tree you put the Lynx in, I’ll never play it, because I didn’t come to WT for the modern stuff.
But I’m still interested in all things War Thunder, and even from a chill and distanced perspective, I find all of this really weird.
