Gaijin refuses to balance LDIRCM Helicopters

LMFAO ignorance is bliss I suppose

gaijin has been giving helicopter fantasy immunity to IR missiles for years already, and that is back with the magical forcefield. shouldnt be surprised really.

this is patently wrong, you can have much more time to react to missile launches, enough time to actually be able to defend, and in some maps outright go undetected.

You have plenty of time to react and defend at 6km.

ngl it is extremely fun just hovering in my Z-10ME and being imune to all IR and ARH missiles and slinging all faf missiles out before a SACLOS missile reaches you

Well If my missiles out range every saclos AA and my Helicopter is Immune to all IR missiles and ARH (if you hover) then there is a use case.

Why you need outrange them If you can just dive down? This would be at least somehow applicable with missiles that need to be guided during the entire flight, but here we have F&F.

If you hover above 60m there is a very solid chance it will hit you. And you’ll have to be pretty high on a large number of maps to see the battlefield from 10+km.

he doesnt say that you need to outrange the SACLOS missile just that the ranges on the new AGMs make it even easier to outplay SACLOS than before. And funnily enough there is only one SACLOS in the entire game that can outrange the new AGMs and the tech tree its in will surprise exactly no one

No. Just no. the only missile trolly enough to maybe his the is aim120C variant. But ive tested and no other ARH missile hit or proxyed

I didnt say i need to, i just said you have the option to

Having to drag 6.3/7.3 SPH or the Type 87 AW to counter these helicopters is insane. Even regular helicopters you struggle to lock with all pure IR SAMs. The only vehicle I’ve seen reliably kill these helicopters is the OTOMATIC or the M247, both of which cannot intercept any long range AGM.

There is no point in this option with f&f, because it literally puts you at a disadvantage and does not give you anything in return.

hydrogen bombs have been tested and everyone fears them, the physics of a hydrogen bomb hurting a baby are proven and undisputed, while iris resisting ldircm is merely a claim made by iris’ manufacturer, and that claim is wildly disputed on this very forum.

If DIRCM is so good why Russia just not spam Mi-28NM and rush all the AA defenses IRL

wasn’t there a story about a 5-gen usa aircraft whose performance was exaggerated by several orders of magnitude?

No?

first hand sources say the missile was dead off the rails and not flared

it is in their own marketing brochures

home on jam is a very common system implemented on a variety of weapons

link?

link?

such as? im only seeing radar stuff so far

Not really home on jam, but this paper explains why LDIRCM aren’t really efficient against any kind of IIR missiles

Those missiles include (some not in game) :

  • IRIS-T SLS
  • IRIS-T SLM
  • AIM9-X
  • MICA IR
  • MISTRAL 3
  • ASRAAM

Additionally, helicopters in game don’t have their blade radar return modelled. They would be far more susceptible to get downed by the following missiles if it were :

  • AIM-120 A, B, C
  • DERBY
  • MICA EM
  • PL-12
  • R-77
  • CAMM / CAMM ER
  • ASTER-30

finally, even older missiles could overwhelm the LDIRCM, as it’s a system based on 1 or 2 turrets

im aware of the paper. curious theory, still waiting for iris or something of the kind to shoot down anything with ldircm, last I heard it’s used to shoot down munitions but that’s just it (maybe you have a link for that too?)

makes sense, but that has to be a short window, how long does it take for an ldricm turret to neutralize a missile’s seeker?
