We donโt have to agree on the Phantoms and thatโs completely fine. However, I donโt think the reasoning against this suggestion is reasonable.
The premium Ariete Certezza in the Italian tech tree already has the option to equip its War Kit, so thereโs already a precedent for this kind of modification. The Challenger Mk.3 and Challenger DS should be able to do the same, along with the Challenger 2 OES and TES by allowing players to equip or remove their additional armour packages.
This isnโt some controversial feature that canโt be implemented. We both know it would be a relatively straightforward addition, and it wouldnโt break any of War Thunderโs existing design principles. The Challenger DS could be fitted with this additional armour in real life, and other Challenger Mk.3s deployed during Operation desert storm were also equipped with it.
Please consider adding this feature. It would mean a great deal to me and many other players who genuinely love these tanks. It would also pay tribute to the different Challenger configurations that served during the conflict instead of representing only a single version that doesnโt have all the bells and whistles.
There are practical benefits as well. Giving players the choice to fit or remove the additional armour would make these vehicles more versatile and interesting to play. For the Challenger DS specifically, equipping the armour modification could remove the sandbags and field applied markings, transforming it into a standard Challenger Mk.3 as it appeared during the Gulf War. That would give players two historically accurate configurations in a single vehicle.
I know this is something that can be done, and I genuinely believe it would be a worthwhile quality of life addition. It could even encourage more people myself included to finally purchase the Challenger DS. Iโm not trying to create extra work or push an unreasonable request; I simply want these tanks to represent more of their real world configurations while giving players greater freedom to customise them.
Please donโt waste this opportunity ๐
Just some additional information: this photo of the tank was taken before the add on armour kits were installed.
Every Challenger 1 deployed during Operation Granby/Desert Storm was fitted with the additional armour package. The upgrades were introduced specifically for the conflict, as the British Army expected to face Iraqi T-72s and other anti-tank threats. If the tanks historically carried these modifications in combat, they should be available in-game as a modification. The battle rating changes make this the perfect opportunity to add this.
With everything Iโve covered, I donโt see any compelling reason not to add this. It would improve historical accuracy, correct an existing historical inaccuracy, and give the Challenger a meaningful improvement without creating any balance issues.

No cap, Iโd buy this the moment it gets added. Full price, and no waiting for a sale. Itโs a win-win for everyone.

With everything Iโve found, I donโt see a good reason why this canโt be added. The evidence, including information from the Tank Museum, supports these modifications. Dismissing them would also mean dismissing the Tank Museum as a credible source.
