unfortunately there are records of helicopters shot down like this in real life, in war thunder doing this is not as easy as it looks, you have to get real close which only happens if helicopter decides to get too close to the battlefield at a speed slow enough for the drone to intercept the rotors, if helicopter is too far away doing this is way more difficult and a waste of time in comparison to an AA missile
also your skill to maneuver the helicopter through the city is impressive, i dont even know how to play helicopters at all lol
Generally I would be glad that this is happening to a heli player. But seeing the way you play helis, I see how this can be frustrating. Because normally I’m dying so some stupid mfing heli like you said 10mi away shooting ATGMS… Granted I know this is technically accurate in sorts to the real world, Albeit its still very annoying dying to a heli or anything that you cant see. But yeah I do agree they should fix the crew lock, or just get rid of crew lock in general
It’s quite sad that that’s the most efficient way to play helicopters for a game. I can’t stand seeing a helicopter 10 miles away, ducking and poking their head out from a mountain to fire off an ATGM/AGM. They’re way cooler when they’re played like this guy did in the video.
Yeah and then 90% of the time team aa is to stupid to realize that they are a AA and not a TD so they just don’t even bother trying to kill the heli, so it ends up being that your team loses because of said heli
Ok, so I am really only posting to help bump this thread, because I feel that Helis deserve more attention from the devs. Regardless of whether or not you are a heli supporter or hater, I think everyone should want them to get better/more fair/etc. I am “good” flying helis in game, though I do not have a HOTAS, and definitely not with a collective controller. Very impressive!
I honestly do not know where I stand with the UAV mechanic. On one hand helicopters are “kind of” sensitive to damage in real life. But on the other hand militarized helicopter blades are very strong and robust, without even mentioning the titanium blades that some helis have. Even carbonfiber/fiberglass blades on US helicopters are protected by a polymer film that holds the rest of the blade together after bullet/shrapnel hits.
If anyone didn’t know, this material is actually the original source of flexible screen protectors for cell phones. These protective films are extremely strong. So, any of the videos which have been posted showing strikes on NON military helicopter blade strikes, realize that military helicopter blades are even more robust than the civilian helicopter blades shown in some of these videos.
But as far as in game suggestions: if only some helis get “protection” from UAV strikes, I think it will probably cause more issues/bugs and delays. We are still waiting for more helis to get their internal components so that they do not instantly become inoperable by 1x 50 cal strike.
In my opinion UAVs should either cause:
Major damage (as it seems to work currenty)
SOME damage (like maybe reduced rotor speed due to “imbalance” from damage),
Or NO damage.
Any sort of “protection” modifier for each type/model of heli will only cause issues, bugs, and likely delays.
I think that removing/fixing the crew lock/“spawn point lock” from dying to a UAV is very reasonable and should be addressed by the Devs ASAP. This is obviously not fair to get crew locked due to direct enemy action. Do we have a bug report for this specific issue yet? If yes, please let me know so I can click on “I have the same issue”.
+1 to this idea. I think some sort of electro/radio jamming device with a cool down similar to smoke grenades would be pretty cool/fun/and reasonable. (And probably not multiple “shots” like smokes, but like a 30 second to 1 min cooldown or something.)
Bet it was nice seeing me get one tapped by that Japanese IFV too huh xD I was gonna swing around to the back to get a better vantage on A and that dude snuck up on me lmao. Dude instantly killed my pilot lmao.
Sorry I’m not trying to flood this thread with my clips, but its just so goofy like c’mon xD. I’m 2km away from the mission area, getting shot at by their spaa and ifvs, AND being chased by a drone like bruh I can’t its so funny xD
Fr I generally hate helis but this also gives me ideas as of to where your guyses hiding spots are, @MADSolar and, I have to admit, its kinda entertaining to watch. Just ignore Rikers_Beard give more pls
Legit dude, like every thread I see you in your being a little prissy pants for usually from what I know no reason. you don’t like this thread go to a diff one. He posted 3 vids or so. Not only that he’s not using helis in the normal piss the whole enemy team off its actually taking him skill to use the helis
Get your keybinds set for “Sight Stabilization” and “Disable sight Stabilization”. This keybind is how you set the target/lock for guided missiles. It is used in both 3rd person and 1st person views. (On higher BR helis) if you keep pressing the Sight Stab key, it will/should lock onto a target. In 1st person/gunner view, on some higher BR helis, if you press the Sight Stab again after locking, you can manually adjust the desired impact point while still staying locked onto the target. Very good for moving targets.
I would suggest messing with it in a test drive so you can get a feel for it, and ask any further questions. Also I would highly suggest using a very easy key to press for the “Sight Stabilization” keybind as you will be using it a LOT. I use something like “F” for the enable, and you could use something like “Ctrl+F” for disable. You will see what I mean about how often you press it in a test drive 😉
