Fix scout UAV drone ramming

The likelihood of a bird flying into the intake of a Heli is so unbelievably low, the majority have masked intakes (just look at an Apache or Hind for example) that’s assuming it doesn’t strike the blades or just get blown clear by the downforce.

idk how or why this became a discussion
The responses ITT are honestly insane

Like Scout Drone ramming is the only way for ground vehicles to counter helos

Really?

There’s no way for a Rank VI+ light vehicle like a 2S38, BMP-2, Bradley, Begleitpanzer or CV90 to handle a rocket rushing helo without a scout drone?

Helicopter rotors are very fragile.

EDIT: I’m speaking in generalities I’m not talking about War Thunder. Get off my case people. I’m not saying anything that isn’t controversial.

Most military helicopter blades are not, they will eat birds, drones, tree branches and kevlar helmets for breakfast while they are spinning. I have seen it personally

They absolutely are. ESPECIALLY military ones. I have experience in this.

I do too lol, most have reinforced leading edges. Honeycomb composite is made to be strong but light which makes it weak in certain directions but strong in others

They are finicky and fragile and even so much as touching them wrong is a problem…

You know not EVERYTHING needs to be a neverending replyfest until someone “Gives up.” Christ.

Yes, a screwdriver will go right through if you drop it on top and they are easy to dent and deform but the leading edge (where things will hit when its spinning) is stronger and won’t deform as easily. They are well designed and even if they hit something like a bird they will keep flying with minor damage.

Right, which is why I shared the suggestions I have regarding scout drones. Now, GRB isn’t the only mode helis can be played in, but out of what is currently available it is understandably the most engaging. Heli PvE is just laying dead on the roadside, after all.

To be fair, in the past I have killed light vehicles by kamikaze attacking them without using guns or bombs. That was a long time ago before they changed things up, but imho they should’ve kept it. But, yes, there should be FPV drones for taking on other light vehicles or helicopters and so on, and like I said if you took those you don’t also get the scout drone and regardless of drone choice you only get one per match - As a balancing mechanic. Imho I think my suggestions are the most middle ground for everyone involved.

Which seems crazy to me because even when I was playing far more I pretty much never saw such a thing occurring, so again I’m very inclined to chalk your experiences up to just pure bad luck in the types of players you go up against. In my case from what I have seen it’s light tanks directly engaging incoming helicopters aswell as every other tank that can get guns on.

Hell, I’m all for it.

Frankly speaking, no. For your example; Gepards and other SPAA spamming APHE belts is indeed annoying, but it isn’t gamebreaking. If you see them and shoot them first, they die and cease to be an issue. Now, the APHE question in of itself isn’t gamebreaking but it is extremely annoying - Always has been and we tried quite some time ago to get APHE to stop being so overtuned and be more realistic, and we were winning in the poll over the no-talents who crutch on it but unfortunately Gaijin ultimately decided to just sit on their hands about it and not go through with the change.

Anyways, other than making such in the right thread groups- I should really refine my idea about the drones and give it a go in Suggestions - There’s not much else to do right now other than grit your teeth and bear with it on the bad days, or do something else when it gets to be intolerable. I don’t know about you personally, but this game isn’t worth tilting out over even on a bad day.

Looking forward to reading it. And you’re absolutely right. I whole heartedly assume nothing is gonna come of this and I’m just gonna have to eat it, but I had to try at least right? Be the change you want to see and all that

If it was something he wanted change, he’d be on here complaining too, as he can often be seen doing when he does disapprove of something. He just doesn’t want you complaining.

So like… Why don’t we just make this take on more of a video game view?

Basically just make rotors a damageable object and have it take 2 drones to destroy the rotors.
first strike basically damages the rotors and gear box making the helicopter fly worse but not instantly die, allowing people to limp back to their helipad.

And if possible, give more drone variety to different tanks. For light tanks, make them use quad copters (2 or so sense they’ll be far easier to hit with an mg) , and have IFV’S use the drones we have now. (Lets say 3 Quads to destroy heli blades as well)

In “real battle” FPV drone carries a HE warhead, so it’s not the same thing at all

Unfortunately since the drones have physics and a damage model this wouldn’t work well, there would be many situations where the drone bounces around and hits the rotors multiple times and the rotor would break anyway

Takes notes
spawn drone
Hit heli
Release cas salt
Exciting

Adding FPV drones is basically allowing man-in-the-loop missile guidance to be allowed in the game, which would be hilariously awful to fight against.

Pretty simple fix. Just disable its (The drones) physics/damage model when it comes into contact with the blades. Its not surviving regardless so it wont be problem if its basically deleted with some special effects.

If you read my previous answer to SFmerc “WT is game and not real life with HE filled drone” unless Gaijin decide to change the scout drone into suicide drone or make helicopter immune against drones.

This argument is 10% about balance and 90% about stupid, low-risk high-reward mechanics. Drone ramming helicopters is not fun for the helicopter user whether you like helicopters or not. It’s a terrible precedent to set. Variable damage to vehicle components is hardly ‘nonsense’.

I suggest you not put words in my mouth, falsely interpret my actions in an attempt to slander and defame me or falsely misrepresent me.

I suggest you stop, because I’ll not tolerate it any further and it is against Forum ToS. Stop walking into that minefield, friend. It’s not healthy.
