Most likely a weaker version than they could have introduced because they’re in a transitionary period where they want to add R-77s to the aircraft, seems like an alright choice given that Gaijin want to be cautious so that when it is added it won’t break the game.
I know there was a bug report regarding the FM of the SMT somewhere, but nobody has posted that yet, so I’ll go digging for it, seems like it contains Mig 29 FM buffs, which I’m no opposed to, so long as it doesn’t make it a better dogfighter than the F-16C and we wind up right back where we were last patch minus a meta F-14.
Even when Mig-29s flight models are fixed, SMT will still be worse than a lot of aircraft.

Domestic version of SMT will only bring more countermeasures and better RWR into table and buffing Mig29’s fm will make much more balanced against current F-16’s.
When they add Fox-3 missiles we will need those extra countermeasures and better Rwr more then ever.

That’s a good thing, if it’s going to still hold the title of best missile bus at top tier and wind up specializing in that, it should be worse in a dogfight to compensate, with the older Mig 29s being a better dogfighting option for Soviet and German players sacreficing the R-27et and R-73 to do so.
Depends on how they model the ARH missile, that’s a wait and see, but I’d hope you can see my point on how if the SMT is a better missile slinger in top tier, mainly due to the R-27e variants, it’s a good thing they selected a plane that can out dogfight it as it’s main competitor.
At least as far as US and Russia is concerned, my only gripe with the patch is that other nations are lacking a reasonable answer to either jet, with the M2k, Mig 9.12, and F-16AJ being the closest competition. Would prefer more things at 12.3 even just for variety sake.
The thing is like Razer said, even if they fix SMT’s fm it will still be inferior to F-16C in 1vs1.
So adding more countermeasures will not hurt mm by any means.
For Fox-3 Era im expecting JAS39C for Sweden and Britian and Mitsubishi F-2 for Japan.
Mirage2000-5F will be more then ok when they add MICA missiles and increased countermeasure amount.
I’m aware that the SMT isn’t, nor will or should be a better dogfighter than the F-16C, but this IS gaijin we’re talking about, they’ve made some odd decisions on jets in the past, infamously the heavily armored F-5c, or on the “other side” the Mig 23MLD vs everything else meta, so I think a bit of caution is warranted.
I do agree that a countermeasure buff would be a good way to increase the combat effectiveness of the Mig 29SMT in a way that doesn’t negatively impact it’s competition, and that coupled with an FM buff within reason for the jet (which I still can’t find the bug report for) would more than compensate for any concerns about imbalance, though I’d like to see it before winter patch ideally, so they have a better idea if FM nerfs are needed to compensate for the addition of the R-77.

so why was the F-16C introduced then? because its a banger airframe with banger engines.
the SPO-150 the domestic SMT uses is already in the game, its on the SU-39 so it should be easy to add, and the 56 extra CMs are a must.
Well we already know JAS39C will be coming this year which can only means that we will recieve Fox-3’s very soon.
But i do understand your concerns because of Gaijin’s decisions in the past, hopefully they dont create another mess and fix those current issues so everyone can be happy at the same time for once.
Cause the worst ARHs can be equipped to it if necessary, and it’s still not as light as the F-16As.
It’s the “worst” of the F-16 airframes.
I wonder if when conformal fuel tanks come to War Thunder if we’ll see aircraft using 2 flight models.
Thats very optimistic expectation for Gaijin tbh.
We will see Block-60 or 70’s soon with conformal fuel tanks but i highly doubt we will recieve different types of flight models for each configration.
The extra countermeasures are also large caliber , like the normal CMs but GAIJIN with their infinite wisdom made the Mig-29SMT CMs small caliber for some reason
I think that the current displeasure of both US and Russia fans is a good indicator of the health of the meta, at least between the 2 top dogs, “when nobody’s happy then things are going well” except when applied to the WT economy.
though I’ll reitterate that I’m fine with Mig 29SMT changes that bring it closer to an accurate FM, and buff it’s combat effectiveness that doesn’t just bring back the stompathon that was air rb for the last few patches by creating a plane that’s the best in every role.

İ dont think that will happen.
Look at Ja37D for example, it suppose to have 48 large caliber and 320 regular countermeasures but instead it had 368 large caliber countermeasure amount.
So they’ll probably model it as a 118 large caliber countermeasure in the end.
Also lets not forget when they added Mig29 they gave it large caliber countermeasure instead of regular one.
mig-29 was already easily beatable by any f-16 variant before the patch though. if you just went below 1000 kmh.
No it wasn’t. The Block10s rated a bit better (as they should) but that was about it, the 2 aircraft were extremely close in dogfight performance
True.
Everyone deserves equal treatment but Gaijin loves to favor Us and Russia for Air department most of the time.
Hopefully this will change when they introduce JAS39 and Fox-3 meta.
maybe the 9.12, but 9.13 was definitely beatable.
