If the flight performance on an EF 2000 would be too much, they could always hit it with it’s G limiter locking it at 9Gs, forcing it to play like an F-104…
That’s still more Gs than the Tornado can pull, so yeah, as a stop gap that would be fine by me. Currrently fighting 12s/12.3s with a one trick pony 11.3 just sucks. I’d quite happily take the EF Typhoon, with some limitations at 12.7/13 sooner rather than later.
Or just the Sea Harrier FA2 with 9M and AMRAAM. Its subsonic and limited hardpoints means it comes with built limitations and is basically a copy paste of existing aircraft we’ve already got in game.
I might have to test that, IRL you would be 100% correct, Tornado F3 can probably pull more than that in game, though what really matters is the AOA of the aircraft, I would hope they give the Typhoon better aoa than an F-104 or an F-16, though if they continue to model the limiters the way they currently do, the Tornado F.3 might wind up more maneuverable than the Typhoon, funny enough.
I think its less about initial G pull, but sustained G puill. Typhoon can do 9G pulls all day long. Tornado bleeds speed and energy instantly. meaning it might be able to pull 9G for a few seconds, but drops off extremely quickly. 1 thing is for certain though. Going from a head on joust to a turn fight, an F-16 or Mig-29 is on the Torando F3s six (having down a 180 turn and maneuvered behind the Tornado F3) before the Tornado F3 has even done the full 180 turn to come around. It’s so stupidly outclassed that I do believe the gap between the Tornado F3 and Mig-29/F-16 we currently have in game is about equal to the gap between the new F-16 (and maybe new Mig-29?) and the Ef Typhoon would be.
I get what you’re saying, and that’s mostly true, yes, the sustained turn matters a lot more in a dogfight than the initial aoa pull, but there’s a couple issues I can see, especially in the context of Air rb with the Typhoon’s G-limiter.
I’ll use the F-16 as the prime example since it’s the maim talking point of the thread and comparable. The F-16’s G limiter will make it artificially compress at higher speeds since you need less aoa to hit those G numbers, as such in order to not fly right by the opponent you need to stay at a lower speed where the aoa won’t hamper you as much and keep your eyes glued to that IAS indicator while performing the appropriate kind of flying to counteract the G Limiter’s impact on dogfight performance, it takes some time to win a dogfight like this.
In an air rb match, you can’t be flying super slow and tunnel visioning your IAS and flying in optimal dogfighting maneuvers while looking out for third parties. As such, your strengths are all nullified by the nature of the game, simply because you will be third partied or nailed by an R-27er you don’t have the time, speed, or pull to react to, so if the EF 2000 comes with the “realism” nerf the F-16 gets, it might just be a better Idea to hand the Tornado F.3 some AMRAAMS and move it up, assuming Gaijin doesn’t give them the pheonix treatment of being useless against a cephalized opponent.
Yeah. That is true. Though there is a reason I main ASB not ARB these days. I personally dont think the game is ready for the Typhoon. But I think its needed sooner rather than later. But there are definetly additions that MUST come ASAP to give a level playing field. At the moment it really isn’t.
But I definetly can see a path for it to be added much sooner than most expect and I personally fear it being massively late, just down to fears of “Balance” around it.
I’ll throw in my two cents.
Russia doesn’t need a new competitive top tier fighter this patch. Why? Because the MiG-29 with R-27ERs is the best close / midrange missile platform in the game and the addition of a new F-16 using 9Ls and Aim-7M is not going to change that weapon dynamic. You cannot use your 8 weapon hardpoints if you are dead.
I think if they got a companion plane to the MiG-29 that would be great, something that fulfills the multirole CAS niche that the F-16 fills. I’m fine with that. But for balance’s sake, the MiG-29 with ERs is going to be about on the level of the 8-hardpoint F-16.
the mig29smt is more of a striker variant to fullfill the cas needs not a fighter
i’d be fine with that if the Germans get one too
Italy as well. Should be an even add. But a needed one and GB suffers the most with no F16 or Mig29
Guys I have a question, in the devblog they talked about a new laser guided bomb. Could it be a JDAM ?
no new laser guided bombs with “new” it means new to the F16, since the F16s in the game dont have access to them yet
https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/mig-29smt.htm
Yep, looks like the MiG-29 we already have with an air-to-ground radar, fly-by-wire, guided bombs/missiles, more fuel, and R-77 capability.
Spoiler
Notably, it would be one of the newest aircraft in-game, first produced in 2004. China, Italy, USSR, and USA would all have multiple fighters with ARH capability. The only countries without any ARH capability would be Germany, Israel, and possibly Japan.
once again everyone forgets poor Great britain
Couldn’t the F.3 Tornado fit AMRAAMS?
so could germanys F4F ice, still dumb missles trucks just suck
The one in-game isn’t denoted as the ICE version so I didn’t count it. Unfortunately both countries are out of luck domestically for a while. Britain will probably get the SA Gripen tho.
It could, but it still would be a rather boring/outclassed aircraft at this stage. It would need AMRAAM and 9M to stay in the fight, but would still struggle, Its an interceptor not a brawler. So I’d much rather take something like the Sea harrier FA2 with AMRAAM and 9M or the Hawk 200 with the same. It would still be outclassed, but would at least be fun in my opinion and stand some chance in a brawl.
May I propose RNZAF F-16A/B for the British tt, New Zealand purchased some F-16s in 1998, however they were cancelled. My point for adding this would be to give Britain a fourth generation fighter (Only country without one except Sweden), and it is no more fake than the F-16AJ in the Japanese tech tree.
I would also like to see RNZAF A-4K in the British tt but yk
Potentially, though I feel every nation running only F-16s is kinda dull. I’d certainly fly it, but would still be a little disapointed. THere are a few commonwealth additions that could be interesting, but I think they would all feel a bit of a let down
