NGL i don’t think the issue is so much the AAM-3 in their current state. Especially for a new plane with XAAM-4s also. Like, it would be bad, but it wouldn’t be horrible horrible at 12.7 with no XAAM-4, or with 13.0. Generally stuff above you at that BR is pulled up to top tier, so you don’t have to worry about that many of them.

Although, honestly, XAAM-4s might be so bad on it it could stay at 12.7 with them lmao, atleast if they were IRL accurate. A missile with fairly poor manueverability, no datalink on the plane, and its seeker by itself is probably overperforming in game (the missile relies an insane amount on DL irl to help with ECCM and such), to a point where it would fairly easily be the worst ARH in the game.

The real issue is once AAM-3s get ungimped. Cause uh, yeah there will be no balancing a phantom with Python-4 tier missiles but no ARHs, or even honestly with XAAM-4 it could be tricky.

F-18C early at 12.7 with datalink sparrows and 9L’s somehow does ok even in uptiers

but a F-4EJ Kai with AAM-3’s and AIM-7M’s wont?, that just screams player issue

Not really.

Hornets with full fuel still possible outturn F-4EJ at 1c fights.

Same goes with Tomcats, Eagles, Vipers unless you bring x3 tanks.

Probably, F-4EJ can outturn at over 800km/h but, dogfighting at that speed is quite rare.

F4Ej Kai does t even get the agile eagle slats, it’s an utter brick. Imo better to move it to 12.7 with aam3

IMHO there should be F-4EJ kai ADTW with AAM-3 and AAM-4 with radar from F-15C (it was with F-16J’s radar but it would suck more than F-4 ICE) at 13.0

With 4x Aim7F and 4x Aim9L its quite decent at 12.3. Gets overshadowed by the F-18A, but at least you are faster and you carry 2 more IR missiles if the F-18a wants to have 4 sparrows. And it has less Aim-7F/M guidance bugs.

Worse G-limit, but also we’re not sure if the EJ kai had the datalink for it, so those two things would hurt a lot.

Tbh I don’t think Amraam is needed for the EJK, AAM-3 is already enough for me.

AAM-4/XAAM-4 would be nice, but AAM-3+AIM-7M would be more than enough

I don’t know, man. I’d prefer the EJK get downtiered than for it to get new missiles.

It doesn’t have the Agile Eagle modification so it’s not among the most agile Phantoms in the game, not to mention that the CM load for Phantoms is just middlin’ at best. You put those two together and it’s very tough in an uptier, and those shiny new missiles wouldn’t be able to make up for those shortcomings.

The far bigger issue even creating this conversation is how miserably compressed high and top tier air is. Serious compression needs to happen first and foremost as far as I am concerned before we even entertain a conversation about upgrading its available armaments although knowing Gaijin, they’d probably just throw in a premium version that’s 12.7 or 13.0 with the more modern missiles and just leave it there to rot like some other premiums for who knows how long.
