F-14A/B at 11.7/12.0 is too OP

Neither is launching R-27ER from ground level (like in the video), but you have to stay low, if you want to survive while guiding SARH missile.

You cant fly not straight into phoenix? Or what?

And you can even launch AIM-54 from 100km away.

And it’ll never hit the target because it’ll be too slow. It’s basically an air stationary mine at that point.

AIM-54 is an ARH missile. When it gets within 16km of target, it no longer needs pilots help, so F-14 is free to “turn cold”.

R-27ER is SARH missile on the other hand. You need to keep the radar lock until the missile hits the target.

And which parameter from that you stated force you to stay low?

This is only if we assume cruising flight speed and average altitude. If launched under optimal conditions it can easily reach 100km.

But you would like to assume ideal conditions for “70km R-27ER launch”, while failing to do the same for AIM-54.

The “there are 2 to 6 ARH flying towards you while you are guiding that one missile” parameter.

It absolutely was, the AN/AXX-1 TCS (and ASX-1 TISEO of the F-4E) and later AN/AAS-42 were used to VID aircraft at extended range, well before modern IFF / NCTR mechanisms were a thing.

Because its much easier to achieve ideal conditions for the ER because the planes that have them are insane climbers. Also you can actually achieve a 70km kill with an ER.

This was technically a 69.4km launch. (I switched targets)

And?
What a problem?
I will repeat: What forces you to stay low?

You mean those same aircraft that regularly face AIM-120s now?

The MiG-29 an achieve similar climb rate to the Su-27. I just like flying the Su-27 hence why I have Su-27 clips.

Also the Flanker is severely underrated. People say its trash but its a very good aircraft even with gimped capabilities.

Ever so slightly, and only in 2 circles. Any good MiG-21 pilot finishes the F-14 before they can force the 2-circle fight.

How can you even claim that when you never flew MiG-21 in War Thunder?

I’ve fought countless MiG-21s, I have had to note their strengths. All the good pilots caught me before I got a chance to force the 2-circle. Cope. Whether you like it or not, energy retention isn’t a good metric to base dogfighting ability on, solely.

If you would call that cope, then what would you call your statement?

Maybe you would say that energy retention is irrelevant?

Underrated is not the same as good or great.

They basically made it into a missile-bus.

Thankfully you don’t really need to care about dogfighting in an era of long range missiles. Also R-73 can somewhat compensate for lack of dogfighting capabilities.

You do realise that while you are guiding SARH missile, you are forced to “go hot”?

While all those ARH carriers can “go cold” not long after a launch, increasing the distance between you, and making your shots less effective.

All the while you are flying towards their missiles, while trying to guide your missile.
