So I dont understand why is f104 at 11.0 really…
It fights MiG-23s, which are 11.0 and better in every way…
F-104 cant outrun them, and it has only rear-aspect heat seekers, which are easily flared, while the MiG-23 gets all aspect missiles and radar guided ones. I cant go high, because im free food for MiG-25’s, and even when there arent any in the lobby, I cant get a lock on enemies below me as they are constantly flaring. I cant go low or head-on, because I constantly eat AIM-7s, no matter how much i chaff.
I cant run away, and I cant catch the bases, because some Phantoms like to steal them a lot. Even the F-104S TAF that has AIM-7s, 2 extra hardpoints for missiles(total 6 of them), somehow sits at almost same br. So I just don’t understand what makes F-104G sit at such a high br.
there are no mig23s below 11.0 and the ones that are aren’t that much better compared to the german f104G (the italian f104G is pretty sad with only 2 missiles)
neither of those planes actually get all aspect missiles, they both get a front aspect missile and a rear aspect missile and the F4E doesnt have a look down radar so its even more limited
that affects everyone not just you, you have to be patient and fire a missile only when the opportunity arises (when the enemy is distracted by something)
thats fair, mig25s can be pretty annoying for anything that can only really work by flanking upwards
the radar on the f104S is useless so the aim7s are too, also its at 11.3?
like I’m not saying the F-104G/S is good, but 10.0 is far too low, 0.3 lower is reasonable for both of them
somehow, i face MiG-23’s in like every match, and even 12.0 such as Mirage F1, and I dont have F-4E but i managed to lock AIM-9L several times during headon at closer range in Nuclear Thunder event. F-4 doesnt have a look-down radar, but it fires effectively AIM-7s in headon (I died sooo many times to this, and chaff was useless)…
it had 9l’s only on nuclear thunder.

Aim-9Ls are all-aspect missiles, but the F-4E in the actual game doesnt have them, it was just given them for nuclear thunder
only if you are level with them at altitude or above them
there are mig-23s at the same BR as you with the MiG-23M, but the MiG-23M is a vastly different plane from something like the MiG-23ML or MLD which are far more capable and scary
unfortunately thats just the nature of the matchmaker, uptiers are more common than downtiers due to there being a limit of only 4 of the highest BR per match and people generally wanting to play higher tiers more

it has radar missiles, but its radar is pretty bad so it has similar if not more severe limitations to the F-4E, and yes it gets R-60Ms but theyre easy to deal with as long as you see them (they have the weakest flare resistance and quite short range)

i tried flaring and chaffing like mad, but i figured that its not helping much if chaff is behind me
in general head-ons are a suicidal move that should only be done as a last resort, especially when you dont have all aspect missiles
when the missle is coming from straight ahead yeah its not very helpful if it deploys directly behind you
they are, but I am not really able to dogfight MiG-23
F-104 should be boom and zoom, but what is the point when MiG-23 flares off your attack and chases you down?
then dont, just avoid them like the plague, running away isnt a problem, you have teammates for a reason
Well, I tried bombing bases, but same guys are just faster
just dont turn after youve failed your attack and keep your speed, the MiG-23 will have to turn to get on you and by then he’ll be slow and you’ll be far away
if youre using flame bombs the only ones getting to bases before you should be F104S and the MiG-23s
they are shooting pillboxes while im desperatly asking for help
