External Cargo Decorations

Several M1 Abrams during Operation Desert Storm (note the baggage on the rear of the turrets)

Often, when tanks go into combat, they must carry equipment that they cannot carry inside the tank; often, the equipment is strapped to the sides of the tanks or is placed inside storage baskets that are often placed on the back of the turrets. While this has been seen ever since the tank’s initial introduction onto the battlefield, it only became common to a degree during WW2 and it became even more common in more modern conflicts such as Operation Desert Storm.

There are many tanks in the game that already have external baggage modeled on them; however, when you see more than one of them at the same time, it begins to look quite strange. That is why I am suggesting these as decorations. They will help to add uniqueness to players’ tanks and help to break up the tanks so that they can appear more unique and less like clones of each other. The baggage could consist of many things, such as a few backpacks piled together, some ammo boxes, rolled up tarps, rolled up sleeping bags, small wooden boxes, and many more.

Oftentimes, these bags and boxes were only stored on tanks when it was planned that they may need enough supplies to last at least a day or two, and often contained things like MREs (Meal Ready to Eat), sleeping bags, spare parts, ammunition, tarps, and ropes/cables. If this were to be added to the game, they wouldn’t have to be perfectly realistic, just realistic enough for someone to say that it was just some bags and boxes at a glance. And also these could be used to implement countless eastereggs and nods to popular films, books, games, and many many other things.

Ignore the CamScanner text that’s just the app I used to scan my drawing

Would you like to see these added to War Thunder?

I guess it would depend on what extend its modelled.
If the modelling interferes with the traverse of the turret or sighting of targets i think it would just be a hindrance. As an example, look at the Centrurion mk5/1 (uk prem). It has fully modelled jerry cans on the back deck that affects the gun depression facing backwards. This means if you get shot from behind you cant return fire as your gun is in an elevated position.
I think some sort of customisation would look cool though

Seeing the same Clickbaits every match with the same vismod with the only personality being decals gets really boring imo. I really hope we can get something like this, but I also really hope people use it. Customization in WT leaves much to be desired and, much like the early days of each new Call of Duty, makes it feel like you’re playing alongside a bunch of robots, all with little variation between eachother. I see the same skins on F-18s, the same decals on every L3 and Locust. Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of creative people and actually good looking decals, but the game lacks so much personality. Every round is made up of the same leopards all driving in different directions, maybe just a few backpacks on the side of a few would already change a lot. Idk maybe I’m just misreading it all as monotonous, or maybe some other lonely weirdo will agree.

The most creativity I see in WT is in text, whether it be thru the players name or some uh, “exquisite” use of the Panchito decal (my favorite was one saying “IN THE MOOD 4 Adolph’s Cock”)

Also, currently the closest we have rn are the jerry cans, infantry equipment, (which are only obtainable through boxes or the market rn) or hats/helmets

I imagine them as being something that wouldn’t interfere with how the turret traverses, more of just a visual change, however, not much you can do about the sights stuff except try and put it somewhere where it won’t interfere with it cant really do much about it in cases where you can see it.
