Does USA dislikes SPAAs?

5.7 take it or leave it

Typical Gaijin fixing a problem that isn’t there.

USA needs an SPAA between the M19/M42 folder and the 163.

They don’t need anything BELOW those.

Ugh.

to be fair my view. i would just like to see if USA can have missiles that lock onto helicopters that are more then 12k away XD or planes for that matter (LAV-AD now at 10.0 with everything at that br being able to stay way far away from its line of sights)

Comparable firepower to what? Wirbelwind? The guns are worse in nearly every metric except the magazine size. Wirbelwind is also 3.7, you think a BR jump of the Skink at 5.3 is justified because it has an enclosed turret? 4.7 was fine, that’s an entire 1.0 jump over the Wirbelwind.

Elco turret is cooler. You get 4x 20mm and 2x .50 cals.

There’s also the other Elco turret mounted on a truck. With 6x .50 cals and 2x 20mm.

i would take it!

I mean, you see people uptiering that thing even when they should be using the superior Ostwind 2 and still do okay in the wirbel. Its main flaw really is that it will die to any bomb or rocket that lands in the same gridsquare as it, and the turret can be easily penned by .50s.
4.7 was probably fine but I can see why it’s at 5.3 now.

I still haven’t found if it had an actual designation or if it was the work of some mad man.

Does look rad though.

because we all know a .50 cal is equivalent to a 40 mm , 20mm auto cannons quadruple autocannons, etc… right?

I’ve never understood the US’s obsession with multi-caliber armed SPAAs. Since each gun has different ballistics, if you’re leading correctly with one you’re missing with the others, unless the plane is at point blank range. It’s a decent chunk of why the M15A1 is so miserable to use.

Accordingly, the Elco is going to be either 4x 20mm or 2x .50 cals, not both at the same time. Which will be effectively worse than the Skink due to it not being armored.

Well the truth is they didn’t really. Most of these are designs that never actually made it.

The M15a1 is really the only exception and it used the 50’s as spotters to bring the 37mm to range, and also to bait some planes into coming in closer thinking it was older M13’s

Gaijin has a game setting letting the player fire both primary and secondary weapons at the same time. We see this in vehicles like the M3 Lee or Churchill Mk I.

If i can kill planes with the M16 easily with just 4x .50 cal, I can imagine how fun and easy this thing will kill with 6x 50. cal and 2x 20mm. I so want this!!

though it was long ago passed for consideration there is the T85E1

Four 20mm M3s is quite the upgrade firepower wise over the skinks even if on a much more vulnerable platform but the M3s would give the US it own Whirblewind with arguably better firepower as the M3 for a long time as been a fantastic all rounder 20mm with great velocity ( 850 m/s ), good rof ( 750 rpm ), and very good damage for a mid to high tier cannon often times one tapping most targets it hits

I need to share the quad 20mm Elco as well.

So there’s 3 SPAA with Elco turrets alone.

Why is this shit looks so funny

Tons of experimental US SPAA’s look super wacky. Like the T68.

Yep, and you get 2 versions of this as well. One with 4x Oerlikon’s and another with 4x Hispanos. The Oerlikon’s are basically Skink level firepower but with 60 round drum magazines instead of 30 round box mags. Hispanos have far better rate of fire and velocity, then potentially more ammo types if Gaijin ever add them.

US getting Skink was just typical Gaijin laziness. They didn’t need it and could have been made up for with actual US vehicles.

Damn this thing is good, it’s even the best for 6.7 due to how user friendly it is

Yep. I +1 it. Would be terrible but fun.

While I’m here, here’s a list of US SPAA with 20mm’s.

T10E1 Half-track:

  • 2x 20mm Hispano 404

3 Elco turreted vehicles:

  • 6x .50 cal & 2x 20mm Oerlikon (on truck)
  • 4x 20mm Oerlikon (on truck)
  • 4x 20mm Oerlikon & 2x .50 cal (on half-track)

T85:

  • 4x 20mm Oerlikon (T19)
  • 4x 20mm Hispano (T19E1)

M114A2:

  • 1x 20mm M139 (HS.820)

M113 (unsure of official designation):

  • 3x 20mm HS.820

There’s likely more as well.
