[Discussion] Balance, Bias, Matchmaking and Battle Ratings

Simple changes that would improve match-making and make people want to play the game more:

  1. At low to mid-BR, stop giving curb-stompers downtiers. If I am up against level 20s in stock tanks, I should never have a downtier in my lineup of spaded, rare, etc. tanks. Maybe I have been playing too long, but seal clubbing isn’t satisfying.

  2. 1 death leavers (and 1 tank lineups) should be given lowest queue priority and never given a downtier or any other match-making benefit.

  3. Stop putting 5 players with full lineups at max BR on one team, and then like 1 or 2 players (usually with garbage or stock lineups) at max BR on the other team. It’s absurd. Balance that out. The number of times I will look at the last 5 of us holding out against the entire enemy team that hasn’t hangared at all and see “Oh, we’re ALL uptiered, and their top 4 or 5 are downtiered with 0 or 1 death” is way, way too high.

  4. IMMEDIATELY ease the frustration by moving to a maximum .7 BR spread. Across the board. So seempo.

The game is mature enough that we don’t need this predatory matchmaking “to anger people into buying more stuff”… You’re going to move more product by less players pressing Alt-F4 because the enemy team has three T29s and your two King Tigers died immediately and then spawned Whirbs.

Where do you think they belong?

I’d put the Q-5A at 9.7 or 9.3, and the Q-5 early is one of the worst 9.3s, but it would be too good for 9.0… The Q-5L should be 10.7 with it’s historical PL-5Bs and 64cm cm count.

One of the primary reasons that teams are THAT bad are because they run out, die, and then quit.

I get you, and there are maps I don’t like either, but if we all stick it out, great things can happen… I’ve seen way too many bad teams still end up winning because 5 players refused to give up.

It’s too wishful thinking.

Oh i fully get that sticking out will most likely end with your side winning. But if i dont like a map winning wont make me like it any more. Its maps like seversk (at br’s above 6.7) that make me want to leave instantly. Theres so much clutter on the map that i can never truly see what im looking at, plus all of its basically cqb which really inst my playstyle above 6.7. At top tier if i see these maps i tend to bring an spaa and leave as soon as i die. If i got more maps like red desert and sinia at top tier i would be alot happier, give me something for my range finder to use as well as maps where atgm vehicles can actually be used.

To be fair, relatively speaking I don’t play much above 8.x, and I rarely play above 10.x… so, to your point, this probably isn’t a fix that will assist at high BRs due to the CQB map set.

For low BR to the bottom end of high tier, I think it’s a good idea to try… rolling a map (or getting rolled) in minutes is lame, to-the-wire close matches are where WarThunder really shines.

The KV-1 (L-11) is too powerful at 3.7 in RB if the Germans are on their side [USSR] it’s almost impossible to gain any tactical advantage in non small urban maps if your paired up with the crappy US teams.

Now we have this poor new VT-4 sitting at 11.7 after the new update.
Compared with its predecessor MBT-2000 at 11.3, the VT-4 has worse mobility due to increased weight and reverse speed that has been nerfed by half. Its firepower is only slightly better with the same major ammunition except for the new GP125 missile, and the gun sight is improved with 2rd-gen TVD sight for both commander and gunner but with worse magnification. The reload rate is still the disgusting 7.1s per round. Its protection remains the same.
So if we compare it to other 11.7 vehicles, we will easily learn that it has one of the worst performances in all 3 aspects. It should be lowered to 11.3 and folded under MBT-2000.
And the VT-4A1 should be lowered to 11.7.

Add “turret baskets” to all mbts. Not make them for specific nations and then wait 1yeAr for the rest

its more of one team being stacked than a kv1 specific problem

I mean, good gun with decent armour is a powerful combo for 3.7. That combined with all the other vehicles at 3.7 that russia and germany get that really shouldnt be that low make it a very potent lineup along with making it painful to play against.

which the L-11 is far from…

HA HA HA, Nah. Its bloody fantastic. The angled pen on it makes it a pisstake, ive killed tiger 1s in it by penning their roof frontally, its a fantastic gun and im not going to pretend like it isnt.

Yeah, right

My mistake, the tiger shot was with the zis-5. Still, the L-11 is perfectly good enough if used correctly. It has enough he filler to be a threat and its far from the worst gun at the br.

It has awful pen for the BR along with a bad reload rate

Great angled pen which means anyone who tries to angle against you allows you to shoot their sides. You think the 30mm or so of armour of a panzer 4 is going to be stopping you lol? Youll be surprised at the angles itll just glide right through.

Angled pen is not considered above average for the BR, it also wont matter if you can shoot weak side armor at good angles if the target doesnt expose their side to you

There’s a few situations like this, for my money right now one of the strangest is the GR7’s arcade rating at 13.0 RB is 12.3 which seems okay, at 13.0 though the thing is facing off against constant ARH spam, no radar, subsonic, and just not fun to play in that environment, feel like it needs rolling back to 12.7 in arcade minimum.
