Tanks offer a capability otherwise unobtainable in warfare
a Unit that can strike heavy targets (Like emplacements etc) while being close enough to capture it and able to withstand some fighting
unlike planes, which can bomb all they want but will neved capture a sector
unlile Infantry which can try to capture all they want but will always be easy targets and unable to strike with as much force as Heavy equipment
tanks today fill the exact same role they did when they first entered the Battlefield
and on MBTs… well you just need the cannon to blow bunkers and trenches apart
Well yeah, they always seem to get destroyed before even getting into the range of enemy MBTs.
I get why tanks/armored vehicles are still being developed, but just like Battleships and Dreadnoughts before, MBTs don’t seem practical or economical anymore
in any situation where an MBT isn’t countered by another MBT or equally heavy equipment like a strike fighter it will be a good reason for hostile infantry to hide and run away, becausw unlike an IFV which can fairly easily be taken out of the fight with an RPG an MBT will usually suck the grenade up and keep going
when the enemy brings an IFV your objective of the day doesn’t change, when an MBT shows up the priority shifts towards taking that goddamn tank out
also don’t forget that everything has it’s vulnerabilities and it’s just sth you need to accept
I’m not trying to argue here, I’m genuinely wondering how MBTs are supposed to survive in an environment where drones are so prevalent, cost efficient and effective
No doubts, just seems a bit weird to list that as a bullet point
As much as I like the look of the tank, Germany (and Sweden too of course) should not receive any new MBTs in the near future due to how dominant the 2A7s (and Strv 122) are.
That’s an abandoned tank you don’t have all the hatches open.
If the hatches are closed they drop the grenade on the engine bed, we have seen it before.
PL17 has 500km range 200 km more than even meteor, Chinese modern AESA is better than even the US ones thanks to the non relenting use of gallium arsenide parts, PL15/PL16 have at least 50km more range than any ARAAM and if we get to BVR, F35/F22 will have trouble with agility and radar respectively.
