Hello. I would like to put a custom voiceover of the crews, but as far as I know, this function is disabled for some reason. Is it possible to install such a modification so that it works?
Not at the moment.
I wouldn’t recommend trying to circumvent a restriction in order to modify files for the game in a way that’s not intended. Things like that sounds like it would risk a ban.
Of course! I didn’t plan to modify the root files. But I honestly don’t understand the reason for this ban.
Maybe there is a version of “Work in progress”? Maybe this function is not turned off yet?
Some updates they have provided so far:
March 27’th:
Sound
Sound Modifications have been temporarily disabled. We continue to actively develop the game’s audio, adding new features and improving sound quality. Due to these changes, some sound modifications have become incompatible with the current client version, leading to an increase in errors and crashes. To ensure a predictable and stable experience for all players, we’ve temporarily disabled support for sound modifications in War Thunder.
We value the community and mod authors and intend to maintain the ability to create and use sound modifications as an important part of the game. We have a publicly available official sound project for modding, and we are already working on:
A mechanism for evaluating the compatibility and functionality of sound modifications
A separate guide for creating sound modifications for the current version and structure of the FMOD audio project: bank sets, routing, parameters/events, etc. This guide will help you improve the compatibility of your modifications with the game, making them more stable and less likely to impact game performance.
As soon as these tools are ready, support for sound modifications will be re-enabled. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Hi everyone.
We had to disable the ability to use sound mods after they were introduced in Update 2.55.1.137 in the WiP client. We know how much you love sound mods, and the sound design team is doing everything they can to restore this feature as soon as possible (both in the WiP client first, and then in the main game client). We fully understand your frustration, but sound mods right now are causing too many game crashes on the WiP client. Once again, we apologize for the situation and the confusion caused by disabling this feature again without mentioning it in the changelog.
As soon as we have more information on this matter, we’ll share it with you. Our current plan at the moment is to re-integrate them into the game with the next Open Dev server.
I understood. Thank you
It is a pity that such an important piece of customization was taken away. I still don’t understand why?
Anyway, thank you
One of the updates at that time contained changes to the in-game sound system so a lot of players games crashed if they had sound mods installed and they couldn’t play the game at all. So the developers temporarily disabled the support for sound mods so that people could still play the game. The sound mod support should come back relatively soon though :)
