Fair enough but, at the very least, in video games, a means to circumvent it should be left available.
This is often done in the real life as well. For example, at museums displaying the Me 262A, a censored swastika is painted on the tail section, but by periodically illuminating it with lights, the censored mark is revealed as a complete swastika.
Yea and using the roc flag to represent the prc is illegal in china. I’m willing to bet whatever country you’re in probably has less people than china lmao
you know what’s infinitely more cringe, Nazi larpers who put swastikas on their tanks and join squadrons like NA7I, the ROC flag was only taken out of use in mainland china in 1949, 4 years after ww2, and the Taiwanese version is still in use today, making it just as valid as any of the subnation flags we can pick currently
and the argument in the room like this country does not exist is stupid since the ussr is like the biggest nation in wt and yet it doesnt exist anymore
Because most Chinese players don’t care. It’s usually just a few that are very vocal about things like this.
So sonce the language barrier exists and the Chinese community largely uses third party forums, these few players just tend to ruin the reputation of their entire nationality. Most Chinese players are still very reasonable.
I still remember when some random Chinese guy wanted the ROK F-35 as their new top rank jet
There was another Chinese guy who explained why some Chinese want it.
IIRC, because it was ‘belief that Gaijin will nerf their domestic PRC jets an unusable level’
For example the PRC flag is often ised to support Chinese nationalist ideals directly mirroring what the ROC flag is used for. The Russian and Israeli flags are used in reference of ongoing conflicts. The German Empire flag is used by modern day nazi groups to avoid censorship laws preventing the use of the nazi flag.
Yet all of those flags are in game because they are either historical or even still existing nations. I don’t support removing any of these flags, because none of this political implication is Gaijins fault.
Simply giving players an option to express something that can (but doesn’t have to) be political is never an issue. If it was only political I might agree, but there are ROC vehicles and ROC players that deserve to use them under their own flag.
Others that might just want to strike up politics still can’t do that through this feature anyways, since it’s client side customization only. If they want to tell otherplayers, they have to do so theough chat. This is something they can already do, and something that can be reported for breaking TOS.
Including the ROC flag does not create a new issue, it just adds some history and better inclusion for a part of the playerbase.
