Nope it’s not when used for artistic or historical expression. Even if it was banned in some countries who cares lol just censor it in those countries
ye, but it is banned in MY country, so…
WT its in the entertainment section, this game its not for educational purpouses.
And I dont want the german community to dissapear
Yea and using the roc flag to represent the prc is illegal in china. I’m willing to bet whatever country you’re in probably has less people than china lmao
games are considered art
Man, I really am tired of those goddamn Power Makes Rights type of arguments.
I really wonder why radical players of PRC bring the Nazi symbol up for comparison as a direct competitor of the ROC flag.
It is a false analogy, because the ROC didn’t do [that level of bad things] as the Third Reich did.
It is nothing more than a gatekeeping attempt at discussion by intended derailment to make this discussion a political discussion.
:/
Cut this goddamn thing fr. This isn’t your gotcha.
This isn’t helpful for discussion.
yes its Australia, of course we have less
you know what’s infinitely more cringe, Nazi larpers who put swastikas on their tanks and join squadrons like NA7I, the ROC flag was only taken out of use in mainland china in 1949, 4 years after ww2, and the Taiwanese version is still in use today, making it just as valid as any of the subnation flags we can pick currently
and the argument in the room like this country does not exist is stupid since the ussr is like the biggest nation in wt and yet it doesnt exist anymore
Because most Chinese players don’t care. It’s usually just a few that are very vocal about things like this.
So sonce the language barrier exists and the Chinese community largely uses third party forums, these few players just tend to ruin the reputation of their entire nationality. Most Chinese players are still very reasonable.
Yeaah…
I still remember when some random Chinese guy wanted the ROK F-35 as their new top rank jet
There was another Chinese guy who explained why some Chinese want it.
IIRC, because it was ‘belief that Gaijin will nerf their domestic PRC jets an unusable level’
the Title says smth like
“I want to ask, why do you openly oppose the One-China principle?”
So… Like most other flags then?
For example the PRC flag is often ised to support Chinese nationalist ideals directly mirroring what the ROC flag is used for. The Russian and Israeli flags are used in reference of ongoing conflicts. The German Empire flag is used by modern day nazi groups to avoid censorship laws preventing the use of the nazi flag.
Yet all of those flags are in game because they are either historical or even still existing nations. I don’t support removing any of these flags, because none of this political implication is Gaijins fault.
Simply giving players an option to express something that can (but doesn’t have to) be political is never an issue. If it was only political I might agree, but there are ROC vehicles and ROC players that deserve to use them under their own flag.
Others that might just want to strike up politics still can’t do that through this feature anyways, since it’s client side customization only. If they want to tell otherplayers, they have to do so theough chat. This is something they can already do, and something that can be reported for breaking TOS.
Including the ROC flag does not create a new issue, it just adds some history and better inclusion for a part of the playerbase.
I created suggestion yesterday and it wasn’t accepted. I don’t know why.
This is my suggestion:
- only national flags
- you can’t choose a main nation flag from other techtree
- flags are based on vehicles in the tech tree and their periods
- flags sorted newest to oldest and alphabetically
Don’t lump all Westerners together. 99.9% of us aren’t censoring the PRC flag.
Untrue. ROC was recognised as legitimate until 1971.
And it is not a political statement, its still a historic flag, hence why it is a decal in game.
I think it just causes too many legal issues. The Nazi flag was never used outside of Nazi Germany so it can’t even be a historical flag. I think the stylized flag we have now is fine and still represents that era without raising Age Rating, Region Locks and Legal Issues. Legal issues would still be present as War Thunder is not seen as Historical, it’s seen as Entertainment. Its a video game, not a documentary. The reason why Wolfenstein was allowed in Germany is because it is very obviously anti-Nazi. War Thunder is not the same in that way. Of course the devs aren’t Nazis, but the game doesn’t poke fun or paint Nazis in a negative light so will cause issues.
Its also not very good marketing, for people to be playing as the Nazis and posting it in a positive light.
Romania (with Italy), Indonesia (with Japan), Pakistan (with China) and Norway (with Sweden) are confirmed subtrees now as well.
I also think China is missing Vietnam as a minor operator.
But still very useful and informative chart. If Gaijin separated fixed (main/subtree) nations from one-off additions in the selection this would be a lot less confusing.
Right now we can only know what a subtree is through some random forum statements or news releases, but it’s impossible to tell by just looking at the game.
I wasn’t sure about those subtrees and yes, I forgot about Vietnam in chinese techtree.
Was “Free France” (w/ cross) ever a national flag?
