I believe its more of an inbetween for me.
F-5E FCU and F-5T SCU is a decent example, its different to the tech tree but not better nor worse, more of a sidegrade. I much prefer having a HMD to 2x extra AIM-9P-4s imho. They should be slightly different to TT counterparts (either sidegrades or model-wise (such as the PUMA u14, or Type 74 (C)), and if not, then identical. Doesn’t make much sense for the better vehicle to be premium, or for a premium to be a unique vehicle that you can’t get otherwise. EG the 2S38, it should have a TT counterpart with the same cannon because nobody deserves to not experience funny rapid fire 57mm APHE and HE-VT :3
I mean, it might not have APHE, but the Begleit is right there
Quality of play and enjoyment at the upper tiers has dropped off a cliff since Gaijin allowed new players to come into the game without grinding and learning the game.

Is there not a variant of the BMP-3 that was tested with the Kinzhal turret that had twin kornet launchers? That would probably be a good tech tree equivalent.

The Thai F-16A OCU is a mix of four distinct variants in Thai service right now.
It’s trying to be the F-16A OCU, but gets the lower CM count of the F-16A/B ADF, Israeli missiles and HMD from the F-16B OCU and AMRAAM capability from the F-16AM/BM (e)MLU. It also has a radar that’s based on a typo and is missing GBU-16.
We could’ve had a straight up better variant in the (e)MLU, a proper OCU that would actually share a BR with the F-16AJ to replace it or even an early F-16A OCU with AIM-9P-4 for an interesting lower BR option, but instead they just had to pretend Thai F-16s are all the same and throw them together.
At this point I’d even take an ADF. It’s an objectively worse aircraft than what we have, but at least it’s real.
To be fair events are locked behind something worse than a paywall.
A premium is always a set price, and available for it. Events after they end are either unavailable or even if they aren’t eventually become unreasonably expensive. I still can’t play a squad of Ka-Chi with my friends because they just don’t own it and the gambling crates are a terrible way to get event vehicles especially if you want a specific one.

I don’t really understand this community sometimes.
They’re against unique premiums but have nothing against unique event vehicles.
Object 279 wouldn’t be so expensive to get if it was a premium they put on sale every now and then.

At least players have the chance to get it, and if they play a lot will have a chance to sell it that with this money will buy premiums.
Its getting pointless to have national TTs. Slowly all of them are becoming the same :/
The issue is not all players have a chance to get it. Even with premiums nearly every player has the chance to earn money, but some event vehicles aren’t available at all after a certain time while premiums even if they are removed from sale come back for GE or semi regularly for smaller holidays.
And even for the event vehicles that are always available they just get significantly more expebsive than premiums over time. If a player starts the game tomorrow, then he never had the chance to get it for free, only for at times >1000€ prices. I know people that make less than that in a month.

I mean, the whole event system is in dire need of a rework itself too, given how much it provides for burnout and FOMO, but between unique vehicles going to events or going to premium status, I’d rather see them get used for events.
I still remember how hyped everyone was when the F-20 was shown in the trailer for its update, only for all that hype to flatline when it was shown to be a premium vehicle the day after.
