Changing the matchmaker BR spread [Poll]

I would be happy to see it tested for a week or so, so long as its only in ground, so if it does cause chaos i can just go and play air

Not sure what you are referring to specifically, but gaijin does know what they are doing. Its why the game has constantly been expanding and the playerbase expanding since its release, why its in the top 5 f2p games on steam, and within the top 20 best sellers list. They have done a lot right to get this far. Also they did know what they were doing with the econ changes, and that is what the players voted for, people didnt understand how the changes were going to be made, and made a fuss about what they had voted for without actually understanding what was happening. but that is a different debate

I usually play when the servers are slow, and often wait ~5-10 minutes for a game.

I would not like to have to wait longer.

Perhaps this change would be good for higher ranks, where most the player base is terrible and the BR spread affects them more.

The number obviously is only anout the forum and reddit, as everyone else has not said anything, so I assumed it would be clear that I am only capable of speaking for those who have stated an opinion. Sorry for making that assumption.

“I would be happy to see it tested for a week or so, so long as its only in ground, so if it does cause chaos i can just go and play air”

That is a good point. And raises questions.
Is it possible top have different MM spreads for different modes? It should be.
How would it work in combined matches, easiest way woudl be to make it always mode specific. E.g. Ground has 0.7 for all vehicles. Naval 1.0 for all vehicles.

“Not sure what you are referring to specifically, but gaijin does know what they are doing.”

You remember the backlash from a few months ago? When Gaijin stated “we totally considered reducing SL costs for vehicles, but feared the community would not want it” despite years of the community asking for SL adjustments to make things cheaper/to earn more SL.

This is what I am reffering to. People also said stuff like “gaijin knows best” back then during SL and RP gain arguments.

“Its why the game has constantly been expanding and the playerbase expanding since its release, why its in the top 5 f2p games on steam, and within the top 20 best sellers list”

True, but it is also dropped by many due to the excessive grind, which people defended for years. So it could be even bigger now. The changes to the economy already showed an increase in player retention.
So Gaijin obviously did not know best when it came to the grind.

Edit. Sorry for the strange quotes, but the multi quote seems to be broken for me so i can not see anything in a post after the start of a second quote.

Yeah the multi quote isnt working
“You remember the backlash from a few months ago? When Gaijin stated “we totally considered reducing SL costs for vehicles, but feared the community would not want it”” i have seen plenty of people saying they did not want it, and still do not want it, and that it has made the game worse. its a matter of who do they listen to.
“This is what I am reffering to. People also said stuff like “gaijin knows best” back then during SL and RP gain arguments.”, They dont make perfect decisions, and they dont always get the optimal solution to things, but generally they have not torpedoed the game, and have continued to improve it over time.
They have said several times that their appreach to changing things is that they do not like to change things to upset the status quo. if something works, why keep changing it until it doesnt? Why risk a change that could torpedo the game, when you simply dont need to?

"True, but it is also dropped by many due to the excessive grind, which people defended for years. So it could be even bigger now. "
That grind is a massive part of the player retention. it only matters what the SL econ is like when the grind gets faster, which it has over the years. More vehicles to grind, faster grinding per vehicle, and more SL to buy those vehicles means that the grind still retains players because the players always have more to grind, but do not give up because it is easier to get individual vehicles. This requires more vehicles in the game to keep the grind going, so changing the SL econ earlier would have negatively impacted the game in their eyes. Also the changes people complained about, were simply a step in the road to the end goal we have now. People would have known that if they actually read the changes, but noone reads anymore. Then with the roadmap they just put all the changes in at once, instead of gradually. Do you think they just did a full U-turn with the roadmap and adde a load of things that were not planned and had been come up with ad-hoc? No, the roadmap was mostly things they already planned to do, Just explaining what they were doing was enough to make people happy. Would be nice to see more about what they are going to do in the future tbh.

Yes.

Their RP and SL as well as the grind changes are all U turns.
Every single one is. Because the had to roll back their patches and plans for patches already published. Because the roadmap changes where a contradiction to those chnages

While we’re at it, change the BR minimum step in the tech tree from 0.33 to 0.5, so that with ±0.7 BR spread (two steps) is displayed as ±1 BR in the new matchmaking system.
Yes, after this change the 10.0 BR will be 15.0 BR, but I’m sure people will adapt.

Well, if you have 2 more friends play on it, this could be a very good choice, I have chosen US/USSR/Itlay to make sure I can be the uptier in 11.0 or 10.0, and every time such kind of combination works.

I certainly know that compressing to 0.7 float change is great, but some vehicles that lack a certain amount of BR due to certain countries can be exploited to gain UPtier by grouping together and exploiting these loopholes

The rp changes were in line with the usual changes after bringing in a new rank, we had been waiting on them for a while and they came with the update. They had always been coming. The change to foldering is a nice addition, but not really mentioned anywhere in the review bombing discussion, so i would suspect that it was something else already planned to some degree. It very well could have been ad hoc though. The SL changes we got were just the end goal of the whole moving to a rank based repair cost system not an effeciency one. we would hav egotten those changes either way, we just got them in one fell swoop instead of over many updates. The single patch they rolled back was one of the changes that would have culminated in that rank based repair cost system. The premium account repair cost compensation may also have been an idea created juts for the roadmap, but again, i’d be willing to bet that it was something either they already had planed for the future, or had in their back pocket in case people were complainfing. Gaijin plans for everything years ahead, so can be flexible when it comes to introducing things…

Ah yes so in your world Gaijin did not literally revert two entire patches of RP and SL changes, which btw STARTED the whole Steam reviewbombing. Never happaned?

“The change to foldering is a nice addition, but not really mentioned anywhere in the review bombing discussion,”

It was literally one of the main Reddit demands and found massive mention in most player submitted reports during the survey. Like Gaijin published that this was a player specific demand. Also Gaijin was literally defoldering the entire year and a half prior to this change. Again Not a Gaijin idea, but a player demand.

“The SL changes we got were just the end goal of the whole moving to a rank based repair cost system not an effeciency one.”

No. That is just simply factually wrong. The Patch which caused the outrage literally was about the insane increases in SL costs due to the rank based system. The reduction of costs is 100% a player demand and a 100% U-turn by gaijin.

“Gaijin plans for everything years ahead,”

At this point you are delusional. Like for real.

Everything you said is partially or fully wrong wrong. And in your mind Gaijin seems to be an omnipotent all knowing godlike figgure. Which is simply not true.

“had in their back pocket in case people were complaining”

Having planned out a U-turn in the event of needing to do a U-turn at some point, still does not somehow make it not a U-turn when they get around to doing it, as planned. So that’s not even an objection to the guy you quoted. It would still BE a U-turn.

[Foldering reducing total RP grind by like 30-40%, and Repair cost per minute being way lower than maximum repair cost = “were going to do it anyway”]

And again here, if they “were going to do a U-turn anyway, without review bombing” that still doesn’t make it “not a U-turn” when they proceed to do the U-turn that they “would have done anyway”

You seem to have a strange view on causality, where “If a person plans out X ahead of time, it means that when they eventually do X, as planned, they didn’t really do X” 🤔

(Meanwhile you have no evidence for them having planned out any of this, it seems like a much less plausible explanation of events, AND even if they had, it still would have been triggered by protests anyway, if it was a “in case of protest contingency”, so it functionally makes no difference to the conversation regardless. Protests still caused it.)

that was how the system used to be though

Some people, instead of using the forum normally, like to abuse the report feature using several of their alt accounts. Gaijin moving to this self moderation thing was probably the worst thing for this forum

we need more BRs not a smaller spread
Edit: why was this hidden? we do need more BRs hell when BRs were first mentioned by the devs they said they will fill in between the .0 .3 and .7, but that has yet to come why report this?

It works exactly the same way, just more aggressive. Reducing the spread to .7 would effectively be the same as decompressing to 14-16.0

not really tho, tho I get the intention, rn the main issue is compression and the aging gamemodes, which have instead of gaining features lost them since they were first added

Changing the spread to .7 instead of 1.0 helps solve the compression issue as in full up or down tiers you’re not at that greater of a difference compared to the current 1.0 system. This will also help with tanks that are hard to balance like the maus as it won’t demolish 6.7 that can’t touch it or 8.7 that completely destroys it.

As far as the lost features, I agree. Most seem to have been removed to try and combat botting but didn’t work as intended and the game is worse off because of it.

not even removing due to botting, for example the old air rb matchmaker was way better took account what theater your plane was used and they actually had pacific maps and carriers on maps way more often. a big issue in ground is the horrible traction system and the kill zones at spots they do not want you to reach, I am sorry but if I can see a path to a spot I will go there and kill zones just make a map feel like a corridor

I would also love to see more variety in maps, even if it’s slightly a-historical (like German planes in the Pacific). From what I heard about a lot of the Pacific maps is that they’re really unbalanced though I always enjoy them regardless due to how unique they are. Really hoping that they increase rewards for taking down larger ships as well since a torpedo usually takes up all your bomb space.

For the ground related stuff, I think it was to stop spawn camping, but it didn’t really help as people find new spots. They would have to make massive changes to how spawning works to fix that.

Currently you have the maps: Saipan, Iwo Jima, Gualdalcanal & New Guinea in rotation. Number 1& 2 are auto-wins for US/UK - all the US/UK team has to do is to survive ~15-20 minutes, ai ships will win for them.

And playing there is a mixed bag as the majority of players don’t know how to fight on very large maps - and 3 have airspawn for all. New Guinea is way smaller than the other 3 and the only one with bases to bomb…

Currently i fly just the BP B7A2 - and depending on daytime and server i play there about 30-60% of all of my matches in small teams (6 vs 6 up to 10 vs 10). I see from time to time the captured US 109 there.

Me too, even for smaller ships the current score is about 175 points for a cargo ship an 40 points for a landing craft is imho too low.

Actually attacking larger ships (if you are JP pilot) is the worst thing you can do there - there are simply too many of them and you get either killed or wounded by ship aaa (somehow feels buffed since a few days) or by incoming fighters.

Sacrificing your position for a lousy score is not worth the risk.
Retreat to af on Saipan is pointless - if the US/UK fighters stay very fast you get killed on the runway…

Iwo Jima looks like a gigantic af, but actually only the small af in the north can provide you cover to rearm, all other af aaa is useless…
