Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 2)

I had to pass it off to someone else who has photoshop to get the flag AND poster/albums edited at the same time.

I would try and convey what he did but it doesn’t make sense to me. (his english was not very good)

early on I found out an easy way to get the flag to appear, but not the albums/posters and vice versa.

in the .blk file you can change relpace_tex to set_tex and it’ll swap between changing the flag and changing the posters.

Sorry I couldn’t help more.

fab, got it to work.

basically you have to have one with a param set to “set_tex{” and one as “replace_tex{” and without a param. not sure why. very weird.

Huh, I see.

The guy who I had help from did something with masks in the Alpha layer of the camo.

But that seems much easier, good to know.

Not sure if this was posted, but the CR2 also gets driver controls and additional power systems basically everywhere in the hull now

The power electronics in the turret bustle now appear to be reallocated to “hydraulic pumps” and don’t do anything anymore

image

Slightly better turret durability but the hull is now even worse

Additionally, hitting the FCS modules will now disable your thermals

This is currently only on the SM CR2

So with the conformation that the CR2 is in its final state for this update i am now pretty much done with war thunder. At least for this update .

so the challengers are basically completely useless, and i mean completely like before they already werent very good but now there just a waste of space on the tech tree

That’s why they put the Abrams in the British tech tree, so they wouldn’t have to improve anything else. Now all that’s left is to wait for the Leopard 2A7HEL to completely bury any chance of improvement for the Merkava 4.

This is not fixed but destroyed by

Gaijin hates British

All the FCS does is disable your thermals if destroyed. The FCS is arguably better for eating spall so it’s actually not too bad.

The power system when destroyed takes out your stab and LRF, which isnt ideal but you can still continue fighting.

The turntable (basket) the real issue here, but it is realistic so I can’t complain too much

This explanation makes zero sense and isnt backed up at all by the damage model btw

meanwhile russian tanks don’t get their “rotating floor” that completely knocks out the horizontal drive like we do, despite them having a functionally exactly the same thing IRL.

I wonder if Gajin has ever done any market research to see if a realistic version of their fantasy game Warthunder would be a success.

they wait for players to do it for them, and then deny their reports anyway.

In reality they have nation researcher’s, some of which are incredibly bias ((Ho-Ri Prototype being completely fake and made up for example)) as for how well they do their job… I’d say the models that get made from their research are great, however some of the finer details leave a lot to question. Some of the information isn’t researched before Gaijin try to fully implement things (or its ignored), which means when more info comes forward; they deny reports or just outright leave it to players to fix it. :/

I think part of why they haven’t gotten it is also because they lack neutral steering which would make the possibility they can turn and more accurately aim the cannon at you. But ofc I think you can still steer fine enough.

What is actually stopping them fixing the way the mantlet looks? Why have’t they lowered it back to where it was before the rework. I saw one of the devs on the bug report said it would all have to be remodeled and wasn’t worth it but I don’t get why.

Convinced this is all politics.
