It is not.
You have 3 K/D on ZSU-37, 2 for BTR-ZD and almost 4 for Crusader AA. This is just against airplanes.
And over 90% of them were long after they dropped all their payload, so it literally does not matter.

Depends on the BR. It’s just as much a generalised statement as saying the opposite.
At low ranks, an SPAA can be dangerous for sleeping sheep in the sky. A pro will take you out without you having a chance.
The higher the BR, the less a SPAA can do against aeroplanes. And let’s be honest. 90% of players stay in the spawn with their SPAA … not very effective. The other 5% play tank destroyers and then there are the last 5% who at least manage a K/D of 2/1. But even that is rather rare.
In low BR, planes don’t yet have such extreme bomb loads, apart from a few exceptions, to wipe out an entire team. Aeroplanes fly slower and are easier to hit.
In the end, only the following options remain. You take an aircraft to fight other aircraft. You take an SPAA to fight other aeroplanes or you simply ignore everything around you.
If you don’t use the tools you’re given, you’re out of luck. We all have the same toolbox. The ability to use these tools is what ultimately determines effectiveness. Certainly some tools are more effective than others. But it is only useless if you don’t use the tool.

This is a serious problem as an SPAA player. Being in the right position when the enemy aircraft makes its first approach and then also hitting it in time before the enemy presses the bomb trigger … very unlikely. You often have to wait until the planes have lost their energy.
I really like this metaphor, mainly because of how incomplete it is.
Let me just bring it closer to what War Thunder is:
A company is advertising an office job. To make the job more exciting, they are mixing in fire drills with small fires being started here and there in the office for some action. They also put that into their job description.
All around the office they spread fire extinguishers, blankets, water buckets, etc.
Every once in a while, as advertised a fire starts. Most employees notice the fires, some only after receiving a small burn and they grab something to extinguish them with and go on with their work.
A handful of employees though just sit still in their office chair, because they don’t want to use the extinguishing equipment and wait for the flames to engulf them.
When they receive burns and walk away, they will just come back to sit in their burning chair, because as said before, they just signed up to this “action company” to sit still.
They now start to write complaints to the management about how unfair the flames are and how they disturb them. Management replies by saying that the work would be boring without the fires.
So they just come to every office party and cry about the mean flames.
