The upcoming major update Tusk Force is going to bring about a terrible change to how planes are spawned in ground battles.

How it currently works is there’s two types of planes, fighters and attacker/bombers. Spawning a fighter will increase the SP cost for all other fighters, but will not increase the cost for attacker/bombers and vice versa.

How it’s going to work is that instead of the divide being between fighters and attackers, it’s going to be between CAS and CAP. In other words, spawning a plane with bombs, rockets, or A2G missiles, will increase the cost for any other planes with A2G weapons, but not planes without A2G weapons, and vice versa.

This new system is going to cause a ton of problems, without actually solving a single problem . . . how is Gajin so good at adding features like this . . . anyhow.

  1. no one asked for this change. Players have been trying to get Gajin to increase SP cost for planes for a long time now, but this is a terrible way of going about doing so.

  2. It does nothing to address actual CAS complaints. The leading CAS complaints are too much revenge CAS and tanks can’t fight back against planes. Revenge CAS is from first CAS spawns (which the changes don’t effect) and the actual interactions between CAS and tanks (WHICH AGAIN THE CHANGES DONT EFFECT)

  3. It harms strategy and makes CAS more braindead. Currently, you need to make a compromise between what planes you take. A lineup with a P-47 and P-61 will yield the strongest possible U.S. CAS planes, however the fact that they’re both fighters means you need to choose between having the two meta CAS planes, or exchanging one for a weaker option (e.g A-26B) to take advantage of fighter/attacker SP cost separation. After the changes, none of that is gonna matter. All that will matter is using the meta CAS plane and ignoring all other CAP/CAS options.

  4. There no equal SPAA nerf. These changes are going to make CAS-SPAA balance even worse. We already have issues with players chain spawning SPAA for free, completely invalidating efforts by CAS to clear SPAA out. These changes are going to encourage players to just ignore SPAA due to the risks associated, and just go straight for tank kills. This is going to increase the rate at which non-SPAA players die to CAS.

  5. The changes completely fail at their intended purpose. The changes were aimed to encourage more CAP, but we all know that no1 is going to waste their time with CAP, just cause they can’t spawn CAS. Instead, we’re going to have more players just leaving the lobby early.

TL:DR the changes are going to make CAS more braindead, hurt CAS-SPAA balance (and the biggest victim will be your average tank player), and result in more players leaving the lobby early. All this, and they won’t even create the intended effect of more CAP.

Im actually on the other foot and think this is going to be a good change and i’ll give 3 core examples as to why I think its a good change

  1. Multiroles. These are usually classed as fighters but are just as potent as any CAS aircraft if not more. Nations like the US and USSR get Multirole “fighters” and multirole “strike aircraft” meaning they get 2x extremely potent CAS aircraft back to back without any penalty, meanwhile most nations only get 1x multirole spawn and 1x Strike aircraft spawn (and I mean truly single role, ground attack like a Tonka). Some dont even really get that much. So its a good way of stopping the F-16C + F-15E combo or Su-30SM + Su-34 Combo

  2. Nations with limited line-up. Sweden is a good example for this and is mostly reliant on the Gripen C for the bulk of its dogfighting CAP and FnF CAS. With the Gripen A as a weaker backup. Now Sweden could spawn both the Gripen A and Gripen C in the same match without penalty. (F-18C as well if needed)

  3. Incorrectly labeled aircraft (this is the main one for me). There are examples of strike aircraft being labeled as fighters and fighters being labeled as strike aircraft and they just dont seem interested in fixing this issue. At lower BRs this could include things like Typhoon Mk1A and a Spitifre being in the same line-up and having to pick which to spawn. But the main one for me is Sea Harrier FRS1e having the spawn cost penalty after spawning in a Jaguar GR1A. These aircraft are miles apart in terms of CAS and so I was basically forced to pick only one per match. I will now be able to bring both into the same match, despite both being labeled as “strike aircraft”.

Overall… I think this is a good change
