Can We Talk About AA.20s?

I encourage you to at least try it, as maybe you will like it. Its acceleration is decent, you just have to be really careful about maneuvering. It does not retain energy at all. It’s easy to find yourself at 200kias after just a few hard pulls. Very maneuverable but does not retain any energy.

Hey, Guy! I also am a huge advocate for the AA.20 Nord! I have clocked probably an unhealthy amount of kills (+1000) with them as they are insanely versatile. Stalling behind someone in a spiral and just trying to get out of there quick? Guide a quick +1 mile AA-20 to delete them entirely. Some bomber flying towards you from 5 miles out sleeping at the stick? Deliver them a bomb strapped to a rocket ship to wake em up. I love them in every way! Especially how it’s me who got the kill; sure a fire and forget is pretty cool but something about every deviation and second guess being my own keystroke just makes every shot so much more deserved and earned. I had just got into a match with you and I think that’s cosmic! Just cause as I said before I love the AA-20s and seeing someone else use them is awesome! Especially curating a whole name to show your passion for them as well. I am also very upset about how they changed after the Alpha Strike update. Though it was pretty sad not being able to click and delete easy head-ons but it forced me t learn other ways to use the missile and slowly I started dialing in everything about the missile like I was learning how to fly a new bird! I even chased down and killed a few F-104s with them! I have a YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@itsjustentity) showcasing a few compilations of a few of my favorite kills. Even some recorded before the Alpha Strike update! I added you so hopefully we can run a match sometime! Anyways love to see the missile get the love it deserves!

I was gonna say I just saw you in game haha. I too get excited when I see others using them. o7 out there.

I also noticed, and this is not defending the bugged state, that most of my abilities to guide them comes from them being useless in the head-on haha. It’s just unfortunate what even when you guide it damn near perfectly it’s still a roll of the dice whether it does something.

Do you think the fix to the missiles is going to fix the AA-20?

I hope so, but given that AA.20s work the same as usual while every other missile is broken, it seems that for some, god knows what, reason the AA.20 uses a different proximity fuse / damage function from other missiles. So I am not very hopeful.

They cry so loud when their missiles don’t work but we adapted bro. We different!! Also TheAA20Guy, what are your keybinds for guiding this missile? I use Hold LALT + WASD

AA20s still aren’t fixed. How come every other missile gets the treatment of being fixed instantly? (I know that answer, but boy does it make me mad)

Or another one from the same game, also a ‘hit’ within 5 meters of the target, and I’ll be real tracking that shot was not easy and to be rewarded for my skills with nothing is downright depressing. Not to mention a 9B exploding 5m away will blow your wing off, set you on fire and probably destroy your tail control but who’s keeping score right?

I know a lot of people who would disagree that theyve been fixed, though imo the bugs that theyre complaining about now are pretty similar to what the AA20 has been having for like 2 years, if they fix it properly for other missiles maybe aa20 fix too?

They released a patch today, few hours ago. People are generally agreeing they’re fixed now, which only took a few days in the grand scheme of things. However, they’re also reporting that the guidance seams wonky now, which obviously don’t affect AA20s. The gif and video I just posted are from a game I played just now, it’s quite apparent AA20s have not been fixed.

considering your username I assume you have far more experience than me on the subject but in my opinion the problem draws from a weird kinda delay in when the proxy fuse detects an enemy plane and when the missile actually explodes, as I find they perform worst in headons, but are still quite good rear aspect. this could be an issue with some weird server side desync

or maybe gaijin just really hated that guy who was using a cheat script to guide AA nords and decided to kill them (the nords that is)

No no you’re pretty much entirely correct. The fuse itself always triggered and was never an issue with not triggering. It just got delayed with update Alpha Strike.

However, even prior to Alpha Strike their damage (outside of head-ons for some reason) has been inconsistent for several years.

These are in the bug report but both show AA20s pre alpha strike being inconsistent outside of head on attacks:

The generic fix for all missiles when they were bugged did improve AA20s as well, but now it seems a much longer standing bug that was present since even before Alpha Strike is exasperated. And they still detonate late, so they really haven’t fixed the Alpha Strike bug either; just that whatever they fixed with all missiles did make AA20s somewhat work again.
