Wouldn’t add anything for us anyway. We have longbow hellfires on the AH MK.1 and the 64e only adds weaponry that we wouldn’t get anyway (Brimstone 2 MMW or unfortunately JAGM).
Brimstone 2 would certainly be a better choice than the hellfires even in SAL only mode.
I imagine the major difference for the US AH-64E over the AH-64D is going to be the presence of CIRCM. We’re buying CIRCM for Chinook and have an alternate Leonardo-built system in the works for other aircraft, but I don’t think either has been floated for the AAC’s Apaches yet.
A SAL-only AGM-179A in the manner we got Brimstone, isn’t really going to be any different from Hellfire. So for a UK AH-64E, the only noticible difference from the WAH-64D would be Arrowhead M-TADS/M-PNVS, and the loss of Starstreak
The AAQ-45(V), or something else? I’m pretty sure that the AAQ-24(V) was tested by the UK at some point.
The aforementioned AAQ-45(V) serves as a drop in replacement for the existing AAR-47(V)2, UV MAWS, so it shouldn’t be that complex to introduce to the AH-64’s as the Blisters where they are mounted are already molded so there is no need for fabrication to be done.
The Major difference is that the Warhead should have a better fragmentation pattern, and a proximity fuse(Height of Burst). so a slight bump in performance against Aircraft and light armor.
“The Army is continuing to develop software enhancements to improve height-of-burst lethality”
What size of aircraft does it specify there?
It may be 70km for a large bomber and 40km for a fighter sized target
We also have our own DASS installed, our RWR has different band coverage.
HIDAS;
SEER RWR, the UK fit is different but still a “SEER” RWR unit;
AN/AAR-57(reused from AH Mk.1;
VICON’s(reused from AH Mk.1);
it doesn’t specify, but sope sources apparently confirm it’s around 40 for fighter size targets
So 40km it is
So does it get LDIRCM?
We haven’t purchased it for AH Mk.2
Welp IRIS-T death
Wonder why they went with arh seekerhead for camm instead of keeping the ir head and just adding datalink
Multipath is less of an issue IRL. And you’re more likely to have IR clutter on the ground against low flying targets.
im dreading nose diving CAMMs because the target is flying at 60m.
Better all weather performance presumably.
Miysis. It’s been looked at for Shadow and Atlas, but probably will go on some other aircraft.
But yes, we’ve used AAQ-24. The original version of AAQ-24 “NEMESIS” with the drum-shaped emitter was fitted on Merlin (Mk.3), Lynx (Mk.9), Hercules, Globemaster, Voyager, and probably a few other platforms.
So mostly for larger transport aircraft. A benefit of CIRCM, Miysis and especially DAIRCM, is that they’re small and can be fitted on smaller, lighter platforms.
Don’t know the roundel off the top of my head, but it has been flown on someone’s AH-64.
The later ball turret
im pretty sure thats dutch
I think you may be right, but that is an AAQ-24(V) though.
Sooooooon
Just to confirm - definitely Dutch. We get a flight of them occasionally tooling over the house at very low level (usually with a supporting Wokka along in tow).
Presumably coming across the channel for exercises. Sets the dog off if nothing else…
