With any and all censorship of anything that’s in the gray zone that used to be within moderator discretion now being hidden, behind the excuse that “it’s not us, it’s the ‘community’ doing it now, you’re doing it to yourselves, nothing to do with us,” yes.
Like I said last month, find a big WT Discord server that’s chill. Best we can do. I have suggestions, if anyone’s looking.
EDIT: All right, what rule did THIS one break? Anyone want to guess? Cause I’ve got no clue.
I mean it is quite obvious why the forum exists with your mentioned restrictions:
It allows to identify additional business opportunities with unused earning potentials and gives you a very fast feedback if something went wrong.
It gives a kind of vocal pain level evaluation in addition to pure user statistics and helps to keep the delicate balance between fun and frustration - essential to earn more and to keep players longer as paying customers.
The Invision Forum is superior to this one by far, especially when you keep it up with updates. This one here is just a cheap Reddit / Twitter mix, which is not even suitable for our community.
That’s fine, I believe the forum change was due to the fact that they also use this one on their upcoming game Age of Water and decided use it for War Thunder as well.
I can’t fully agree with that. Terrible in direct comparison to a tool somebody has used for years, yes. As a total assessment, not really.
From my point of view the new forum has just a few, but severe downsides:
The non-migration of highly valuable content of the old forum
The hiding of posts after flagging
Similar threads can’t be (or just were not) merged with pinned threads
The highly detailled and imho very good) topic structure is gone - adding tags is helpful but if the OP is using the wrong tags…
There are no pinned feedback threads (like map feedback, MM, game mechanics, etc.) available, despite a lot of people asked for them.
Upsides for me:
So far zero, but after a while i got used to the new one.
From my perspective (ofc in hindsight) a simple one pager (differences old vs new, how to do what in the new one) would have been necessary. And ofc a kind of preparation time for the switch.
I tried to create a poll - simple 7-8 questions, some with multiple choices. I gave up. There is no easy guide here (or one the homepage of the forum provider) how to create a complex poll, no “help” function, nothing. At least i was unable to find any help/support.
1- Sadly this was inevitable due to underlying code differences.
2- This can be turned off by staff if they feel it’s being abused.
3- Likely were not.
4- Topics still remain just cleaner. And tags do help more than not.
5- That’s more of a number point 1 critique yeah?
Eh… suffering a week of insomnia which means low cognitive functions, so defaulting to the information I can get to without remembering too hard means War Thunder.
So it’s WT and WT forums while this insomnia is rattling me.
This new forum isn’t great but isn’t terrible.
My biggest concern so far with the new forum experience is that people are able to abuse the flagging system to censor others’ posts simply because they don’t like their opinions. I believe that such a feature shouldn’t have been implemented as it currently operates and needs serious tweaking.
Oh, I still want to upload my own pfp, and upload my own signature and links. That feature removal was nonsense and I’m still salty about it.
I’ve created several topics on this new forum and I have to say that once I’ve got to grips with the ergonomics, and tried out a few tools, the layout is much more pleasant to use and allows greater flexibility and readability.
It’s not all perfect, but in a few months’ time, once all the unsuitable features have been patched or removed, the new forum will be a more pleasure to use.
It’s already taken a lot of work and caused a lot of grumbling (starting with me), but that’s mainly due to a blatant lack of communication about this change of platform.
The worst part is definitely the (very likely) deletion of the old forum in two years. Everything that was said, every picture will be gone.
People invested so much time in this forum, it’s historic, you can’t just wipe everything like it’s nothing.
