For those of you who complete 5 stages, you’ll be able to continue using the “Battle of the Atlantic” loading screen in the loading screen filter after the event ends!

  • You can track the progress of completing tasks by clicking on “Nickname → Achievements → Battle of the Atlantic.”
  • If you did not manage to complete a stage on time, until November 16th in the achievements window, you’ll be able to purchase stages using Golden Eagles and receive the corresponding prizes.

Attacking

The attacking team uses the customized German Type VII Submarine, which is armed with 10 torpedoes in bow tubes, and 11 mines launched from stern torpedo tubes! In addition to this, two twin 20 mm cannons and one 37 mm cannon. Submarines are unreachable for depth charges and detection at great depths. On the surface, they’ll have great visibility range and can move faster, but here they’ll be highly vulnerable and easily detected by the enemy.

For a submarine to attack, it’ll need to be on the surface or at the depth of its periscope. Look for targets through binoculars or with the periscope and identify — keep your crosshairs on the ship, as this will allow you to calculate the lead for attack. You can also launch torpedoes, which is possible at a depth of up to 20 meters as well as contact mines down to a depth of 60 meters!

There are three types of views available for submarines. You can use the third-person camera at any depth, however it will not allow you to begin calculating torpedo fire. When you submerge to a depth of 7 meters, you’ll be able to raise the periscope and observe the surface through it. If a submarine is in motion and you have your periscope raised, it’ll be easier to spot due to foamy water forming. The periscope is not too high above the surface of the water, but is still safer than binoculars that can only be used on the surface. However, binoculars have the best zoom and highest vantage point, so choose wisely!

Remember to keep in mind the noise level emitted by your submarine! The higher the speed, the higher the noise level. A stationary submarine can only be detected when in close proximity, while a submarine at a depth below 60 meters cannot be detected at all!

Therefore when playing in your submarine, make sure to find the right balance between safety, speed and precision in attacks.

Defending

In this event, the convoy is defended by US ships, specifically the USS Tacoma frigate and the USS Fletcher destroyer. Both can respawn at dynamic points around the convoy cargo ships and use any method available — depth charges, guns, torpedoes and good old ramming speed to defend against the attacking wolfpack. Having accumulated the required amount of spawn points, defenders can fly out in an anti-submarine aircraft to help defeat submarines from the air too!

Defenders can detect enemy submarines both visually, for example at longer ranges if it’s on the surface, or if it has its periscope raised as well as with the help of special equipment. Using a hydrophone will allow you to obtain the bearing and approximate distance to a submarine based on sound, but not depth. The faster the enemy submarine’s speed is, the greater distance at which it can be detected. At a short distance around the ship, sonar works — it can detect a submarine at depths down to 60 meters and will show you its silhouette!

Good luck and have fun in this challenging naval battle!

Oh yes please!
Can’t wait for submarines to be part of the regular tech trees

Pointless paragraph: Slight naming error, USS Tacoma PF-3 isn’t in game but the USS Hoquiam PF-5 of the Tacoma class Frigate although similar could be said for the Fletcher class or just for whatever reason the devs put the US prefix USS before the classes I don’t know why but ut looks weird going USS then the ship class & type.

I hope repairs costs ain’t active as if they’re RIP some people banks on this pitiful warship that’s is even worse then the HMS Churchill I45 but gets a 20k repair, But ohh joy more people get to experience a horrible warship hah hah hah RIP those that try use the 3" guns bow on (curse you rails in front of the cannons).

Still I’m gonna be rocking this event with that frigate as it’ll be the best ship for ASW warfare especially with it’s Hedgehog naval mortar.

Definitely pumped for both sides of this event.

E, forgot a word

E2, It has come to my attention these are separate ships as seen by recent datamines forget my first paragraph, Still why name them as new ships instead of importing the model which are already in game? (Well at least the Tacoma class Frigate).

E3, It seems Hedgehog mortars have half their range in this event which is an extreme throw off from the standard mode but at least they seem to have their correct launch speeds compared to the standard mode.

Add in we cannot set the depth timer for depth charges like in the standard mode to which begs the question why can’t we use it as in the few matches I’ve played the timer is to long for cqc fight as a submarine can escape certain death from what would generally be enough explosive going off to sink a cruiser in the general mode.

Still it’s a good observation that all depth charges fire off quickly unlike how they’re rather slow in the standard mode add in they’re launched separately and not fixed in a salvo (well they still are fixed to a salvo but they fire off separately), Plus the Fletcher class gets it’s stern rails for dumping stern depth charges is also good.

Furthermore for submarines the maximum depth is to shallow add in just being around 59 metres for to long seem to crush you even if it say the crush depth is 60 metres, At this point Battlestations Pacific subs is still slightly superior since there was a safe deep depth & a maximum crush depth an the former allowed to avoid depth charges without being crushed in the latter which was around 100 metres iirc.

Controls need to be remade on console as the default for playstation conflicts with the pop up quick action menu I suggest for any here L2 + L1 for diving & L2 + R1 for diving.

Another thing there’s an Emergency surface control yet why isn’t there an opposite crashdive control setting?

Controversially the USS Tacoma PF-3 could’ve been made an event ship at Rank V for this mode as even through it’s rank V it’s in fact a terrible ship for the standard mode & that’s saying something as someone that has played the TT equivalent…

It is very strange… The client has updated. But I don’t see any reference to this event :( Does it supported on Linux platform? As I remember previous test event with submarines (year or two ago?) was not available on Linux.

Pay extra attention to this

Really, thanks, I missed the timezone :)

seems very fun and different! :)

Please add subs permanently!

Its something new for sure and I like it. Depth charges finally have their intended use.

But is it even possible to win for German team? German airplane is useless because of extreme AA on cargo ships.

Also, add this to regular naval

why don’t you get points for sinking freighters??? that’s the job of the submarines… so in the mission u boats only fight against destroyers and you could have saved yourself the trouble

how to play uboot? im being thrown to destroyer teams

Switch to Germany in event window

dang, havent seen this tab :D
thx

Oh yeah! I have wanted to try submarines at WT for a long time, especially after the last modern submarine event.

Hard to play with submarines but fun! Nice sounds of underwater and sonars :)

Its super easy for Fletchers to spawn camp submarines

It’s fun to play both sides. Just the ammunition could be replenished for submarines because I consume all the ammunition very quickly.

@Stona_WT Is it intentional that you get next to no score for sinking the freighters? After sinking 3 freighters i had a total of 33 mission score in one of the games i played.

So the hedgehog launchers get no indication of where they fire the barrels which would be great information to know, charging submarines leaves you dodging not only a hoard of torpedos but also mines they vomit out which I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a submarine fire the mines while actively evading escorts but the thing I’m stuck on is why are submarines so tanky?

3 salvos of sap into the center compartment of a submarine and not only is the compartment not destroyed it finishes its dive

A near miss from a depth charge destroys the torpedos but it just shakes it off and keeps going without long term damage or permanent flooding.

At the same I can see kinda see why, these matches are so lopsided in favor of the escorts, I haven’t lost a single one so far because the submarines end up stuck in brawls with the escorts and can’t sink enough transports to win.
Also the whole needing score for the task and freighters giving practically nothing for playing the objective means submarines have to brawl with the escorts anyways for the event.

Oh yeah, US side is way too OP. I finished that “1500 mission score” in single battle while I need 4 for German side.

Catalinas can bomb subs very easy since they dont have AA while its pretty much impossible for German side to use their bomber.

Also, why do bombers have that bomber reticle like in Arcade battles when it says these are Realistic?
