Depends what the game focus is, example WT/Enlisted/WoT/Armored Warfare/WoWs/Fortnite are free, no subscription needed, but GTA5/Farming Sim will require that if you want to play Online

Sure, War Thunder doesn’t need PS Plus. But it’s not like we console players bought a PS5 just for War Thunder, right?

No, having to pay subscriptions just to play a game when I wouldn’t have to if I were on PC.
PS Plus offers three monthly free games that you can play anytime, as well as a game catalog featuring hundreds of PS4 and PS5 titles that you can download and play freely. There are three subscription tiers: Essential and Extra and Premium, each with different service levels and pricing. The Premium plan includes a Classics Catalog, allowing you to play acclaimed titles from the PS2 and PS3 eras. I’m currently subscribed to the Premium plan and have downloaded games from the Armored Core series and SIREN.

Free games don’t require it, but for paid online multiplayer games it does
Sometimes crossplay fails and you find yourself in 1x1 match with 7 bots in each team. Maybe just my problem, idk.
Before this economic silliness - and before that - with AI, you paid maybe $400 for a console that could run most games.
Maybe $800 for a decent rig.
Nowadays it’s almost 50% more expensive.
