29SMT has 85deg(into both sides) which allows to launch from notch(for parr of radars at least that will be notch) or very close to it.

That’s what you have Aim9M for though… 3.5km from side aspect is pretty much the perfect angle for a 9M.
The advantage of the US side is that you can force the enemy on the defensive with Aim120 and finish the job with a 9M.

Very true, I’ve gotten good at avoiding the amraam part but not the 9M part that comes after while im side on. I try to pre-flare it if I have a lot but with jets like the MiG-29G it’s crazy difficult

most good players wont even let you get that close, they will fire aim120 from 20+km and force you to stay defensive, it also pulls same G as r27er which is 35G, so its not like its sluggish

At some point you’ll just learn to accept you’re being a RP pinata to US jets.

i don’t even play this crappy game anymore, every time i watch the latest “dev update” video it’s just Russian stuff getting absolutely delusional nerfs (the latest su34 nerf makes it’s PESA slower than 70s radars irl) and US stuff getting buffs, it’s ridiculous, devs are completely delusional and detached from reality.
My theory is that russian bias posting mindbroke them completely

Its easy to flare the 9M if you know its coming. Just wait til it gets a bit close so you don’t waste flares then you flare and turn so iog doesn’t kill you.

The scanrate for the Su-34’s radar is still pretty fast, faster than NATO radars in game.

If you can launch a 9M, my R77 is guaranteed to still hit, but you are correct in that it is very difficult to defend against both an AMRAAM and AIM9M at the same time.

However it seems 90% of players don’t use IR misisles anymore, as they are so easily countered so I don’t have too much of an issue at the moment. Most players take a full loadout of SARH missiles only.

In my described situation, the enemy I’m facing either has to stay further than 6km away at all times, or die to my missile while I can stay completely immune to their missiles because I am close to, or already notching their radar and missiles.

So it doesn’t matter if they fire a misisle at 50km, 20km or 5km, I can always be in a good defensive position.

If they try to get close enough to lock me with an IR missile or guns range, they will get slapped an R77 doing a handbrake turn off the rails which they won’t have time to react to.

Other 50g SARH such as the R-Darter/Derby can also do this very well. The best misisle for it is the MICA-EM which has crazy initial turn rates.

Yeah and they’re wrong. I bring 1 ET with the Mig29SMT, and 1xAAM3 + 3x120 + 3xAAM4 on the F15JM. Having at least one IR missile is still very important at top tier. On the F15 I usually drop the Aim120 early on for easy kills, then get more agressive with the AAM4, and I usually can get an opportunity with the AAM3 which is often a sure kill in the current meta.

The ET is fantastic meanwhile at catching a player off guard at altitude.

Heck I get caught by them too. Recently I got a kill with a R77 on a F15 that was some 7-8 km away. I saw a missile diamond but didn’t notice it wasn’t triggering my RWR. At 8km while notching I was pretty confident I was dodging it anyway. Well turns out that was a 9M and it actually hit me. I wasn’t flying that high either.

Honestly I probably died more to mid range IR missiles than anything else in recent matches.

The missiles that don’t really see much use nowadays are the short ranged IR Magic 2 and R73. I don’t think I used anything else than my MICAs on my 2000-5F in a while.

Try doing that to any player that knows how to HOBS properly and has any fox3 that isn’t the aim120 (worst missile for that) and see how it goes. At best you trade because you can’t really use aim9m on HOBS and you expose yourself. Only multipathing might save you in some conditions.
