Well, I don’t think there’s much complaining about missile AAA.
But god damn, the hitscan AF AAA is a living nightmare.
Also recently I’ve been running into M163 quite a lot in my Ta-152H, not very enjoyable, but at least it’s dodgeable to some extent, unlike AF AAA.
I think his point was he doesn’t need afterburner to kill planes on the runway at jet BRs.
Well most of players on jet BR-s are wallet warriors that drop bomb on bases and continue to enemy AF to be shot down by AF AA. Hardly will they complain about it.
I don’t see how could you fight against M163 when he is 8.0 and TA is 6.0. You can fight in +1/-1 window but not above and below that.
Unfortunately the fellow player is right, gaijin has issues with proper BR allocations of midfield aaa or af aaa and props - a famous example:
Will look for the replay, because I have encountered M163 several times recently, if you really have problems believing me and think I make stuff up for some ridiculous reasons.
EDIT:
here you go, warning, includes some interesting chat and a drastic miss at the end (but I guess my plane being damaged and on fire may have something to do with not-perfect approach).

You just proved that there is no ME163 in your game. That’s all I was saying.
It wasn’t M163? Ok, I’ve seen M163 so maybe will try another match. I thought it was firing fast enough for M163 here. Anyway, once I prove I do meet M163, will you f.e. stop posting here forever, so my effort gets properly rewarded?
EDIT:
Here you have a screenshot from the match. it’s M163
EDIT2: Golan heights has M163 too, and they were able to nick my wing from 2km away, luckily I dodged the res.t
I tought you mean plane not SPAA. My bad.
It took me out from 1800m away with 1 burst BTW.
It’s ridiculous, and makes dogfighting at a radius oof 4km from M163 a suicide - because it’s easy to get closer than 2000m while fighting and if you slow down which often happens in such circumstances, it’ll shred you to pieces at that distance.
Yeah it is dangerous as it has high rate of fire and okay balistics. Props shouldn’t fight them at all.
My last battle - replay is quite boring (it has some quality chat) and I don’t recommend watching it,. but it’s a “proof of concept”, in case anyone needed it:

But you can see AF AAA used in a bit less obvious way.
First Ki-84 escapes by going into the AF AAA zone, thus negating the 2 v 1 advantage of Me-262s, both would have missed every shot, but that’s beside the point.
Then it turns out 1 Me-262 guy can’t land, and the other Me-262 decides to “energy trap” Ki-84 that has only a bit less energy than himself and of course stalls in his guns.
Then He-162 uses AF AAA to remove Ki-84 from his tail and fails to get any serious firing position anyway because he’s bad.
Lack of AF AAA would have made this game probably shorter and less painful to watch.
Just got ganked by a F-5 while landing, was already on the ground, rolling out as he hit me with a AIM-9E (??? on the ground?). Airfield AA did nothing. And as I watched the replay this guy got 3 kills with this and became top scorer.
I don’t know what Devs are like. But WT is sometimes so annoying and I know no other game where spawn killing and these base ganks are so frequent and so easy to pull off. Why can’t they plant adequate air defense, missiles and gun systems. Any why are airfields often placed on such bad spots and grant alot terrain cover to any airfield camper while hes going in for a gank.
I have never been spawn killed in Air RB by anyone outside my own team. How did he kill you in the opening 30s of the game?
I think you have to consider this:
I think your description was a little bit misleading as by definition you have just one spawn in Air RB, and your death at your airfield was technically no spawn kill - even if your single spawn is at your af.
This might explain the question from the fellow player regarding your experience…
Spawn kills are a plague in Ground and Naval modes obviously, base ganks in Air RB. I mentioned both, since it seems to be a general issue in WT, that these lame mechanics are a thing.
Like you spawn a precious 900 spawn point jet and get spawnkilled by a Z-19 camper with TY-90 missiles. Or a prop is circling above the air spawn in naval/ground RB and swoops in for the kill as soon as you spawn. Same with helicopters, there are other helis or jets just waiting for your heli to appear and you’re dead 5 secs after. Its a plague.
Its so meh. Maybe planes should be just be invulnerable when they spawn or touch the ground on their Air RB airfield. For Ground/Naval modes there should be a randomized air spawn point along your teams outer map border, instead of a fixed spawn point which is camped far too often.
Nope, its the new forum. This thread is in the Realistic topic, which includes air, ground, naval. There’s no seperation anymore. Airfield ganks are very related to the issues I mentioned above: Spawn killing techniques in Naval and Ground RB.
Oh, I forgot the best one: Some of the boats / ships have Ground / Ground or SAM missiles now, which are also used to spawn kill planes. Like in a 4-5 BR match you spawn a WW2 bomber and f.e. the Italian Seatta abuses its ATGM to lolkill your Bomber just seconds after spawn.
The whole game is full by these lame mechanics.
People abuse any kind of protection to troll other players and extend the game to full 25m.
Yesterday it took me and Ju-288 10m to lure F2G out of AF AAA, after his teammate in F-84 who was doing the same died while chasing another Ju-288.
Anyway, I was below him and yet he still refused to engage. Initialy I had 3km alt advantage.
The thing is - do we really need to baby sit such players? The guy was AF camping the same way in 2 previous matches.
I sometimes meet a certain guy in P-47 who always does the same trick - sideclimb to space, dive upon me, get reversed, dive straight to AF, reclimb if unmolested, dive, get reversed, run straight to AF.
This is how AF AAA works in practice.
When AAA didn’t work at all basically the only people I killed because of that were… clueless AF campers and AF runners and v. rarely some poor guy who AF runner put me in contact with.
It was tagged as “air” but well I changed it to air-rb
In my opinion AF AA should be turned off unless someone is currently landed on the AF, this will prevent spawn killing, and running to the base.
Everyone should be able to land and repair/re-arm, so removing/nerfing it massively is a bad idea.
Full disclosure: I’d just ban and/or instantly leave any map that doesn’t give protection to people that are rearming/surrendering. The ability to surrender in WT should not be tarnished.
I don’t like the act of camping enemy airfields far more than I dislike someone trying to rearm safely.
& people being like “This is a PVP game.”
It’s a multi-faceted game. It’s a PVP/E game, and the sooner people understand the E parts the more they’ll improve.
Ironically the “players can’t shoot while near enemy airfields” is the best suggestions for lack of realism I’ve heard. If you want to kill someone on the airfield in that system? Use a bomb I guess.
