Air to air missiles currently are extremely unreliable at taking out enemy aircraft, especially flankers (su30sm, su30sm2, su27sm, etc), in top tier air battles. A direct hit (or a close-range blast) from an AAM would VERY often result in only a black fuselage that minimally impacts the flight performance and control of the target. Refer to the image below for a typical scenario. Changes to the damage model introduced in recent updates are not able to address this issue.

the damage calculation algorithm was modified in some update. i got to know this through a data mining result but i didnt save that sheet
not sure it’s a bug or expected feature.

I saw it too, but this fix is largely useless. While direct hits are possible, they are rare. The main way AAMs deal damage is through the fragmentations from a close-range blast when the proximity fuse is triggered. There is no HE damage dealt in such a situation. The amount of fragmentations of missiles were greatly reduced when gaijin reworked gun damage this major update. I’m not sure if this is an expected feature or an unintended side effect, but it does make top tier air rb extremely unpleasant.
I think the fix got me a bit more kills with the aim120s. But still seeing too many hits and crits but no kill after, assuming they either limped back to base or somehow continued fighting.
Bro i direct his the chinese su-30 premium with a rb 74m and by direct i mean it literally touch him dead center and “hit” didn’t even orange the fuselage, but no r77’s can magically phase through trees and solid ground and 1 shot me but not be anywhere near me :)
