r74m and r74m2 has iir seeker normal r74 doesnt also r73m gets mistaken for r74
Isn’t this in effect how IIR is modelled ingame (at the moment anyway)?
That’s just TVC being weird, MICA is the same way sometimes
The IRCCM it has is one of the best, you need to use it in situations where it won’t matter what the enemy does they will be destroyed (<2 km rear aspect)
no thats not what a dual band seeker is IRL
a dual band seeker uses both the IR an UV spectrum to track a target
Can come alongside buffs to AIm-9M, its IOG drift is such that the target doesnt even need to defend if the missile further away than 2km, it will just miss with the seeker shutoff
Not exactly, it can be anything, such as LWIR/MWIR, IR/UV, IR/TV etc.
but for an A2A missile IR/UV is the most likely imo
but thats besides the point that the r-74m(2) isnt IIR
Why does anyone even buy Russian weapons if they can’t even implement basic things?
other countries wont sell them stuff or the Russians put extremely low upfront prices

NAVAIR claims HOBS capable of hitting behind the launching jet and air to ground capabilities so I think this really depends on if LOAL is added for aircraft that carry the 9x
The Air to ground capabilities are very poor, IIRC less then a 60% hit rate even under ideal conditions. And that’s besides it having relatively poor capability to damage anything other then lightly armored vehicles.
I just said it was possible not useful
They’re also saying something about kinematic filters to filter out the difference in velocity between the flare and the aircraft is targeting by visual but it’s only 128x128 so either it’s doing some optical tracking or the US military is lying about its seeker head
Its highly possible, angular momentum filters exist on some psuedo-imager rosette scanner systems like the stinger IIRC. And those aren’t exactly high in image quality.
The IRCCM is terrible bro, same with the R-27ET
They use the same type of IRCCM, but differ slightly.
R-73’s FoV is small, R-27ET’s is bigger. Also you should use it (R-27ET) from ~6 km and when no one else on your team is nearby or they’ll preflare and it’ll miss. Also get to know which jets have MAW and which don’t, itll help to not waste a missile
Also since the update (a long time ago, can’t remember when exactly) that made it so their FoV effectively start to shrink while it’s still on the pylon and not only when in the air like it used to, you could just wait to get within range (ie when the seeker itself starts ignoring flares, even without a radar lock) and get a guaranteed kill, again, in rear aspect
It won’t work as well in side aspect unless you’re very close, like 1.5 km close for R-73
TLDR, get closer before launching, they’re one of the best gatewidth IRCCM missiles alongside the Magic 2, PL-8B/PL-5EII
Select later sidewinders (AIM-9G, -9H, -9L & -9M) should do this too.
Implementing “Sidewinder Expanded Acquisition Mode” (SEAM)
Surprised this hasn’t gotten any attention for a year now
Personally, I guess AIM-9X Block 2 & AIM-9X Block 2+ for 4+ gen, 4++ gen, 5th gen and 5.5 gen fighter aircraft (USA & USA Allies)
Bro I know how to use them I don’t need a tutorial but it’s a fact that the IRCCM is absolutely terrible
