Aim 120s being quite weak

sub 5km derby is better, aim120s cant react as quickly to someone whos turnin, like you can just roll it up close

micas are the only missile thats harder to notch

I’d say 8-10km+ headon is when the AMRAAM starts having advantages over the derby but yea (for this reason you see the “worse” gripen used in TSS)
AIM-120s are just mediocre, not weak but def not a top contender.

I just had the stupidest experience with the 120c5s, I shot a 120c5 at a rafale at 35km range, the missile got really close to him but he notched it. The missile then decides to lock onto a eurofighter behind him and accually kills him XD. Thats a first time. Doesnt the missiles arent complete dogshit.

the AAM-4 is when the Japanese took an AIM-7, and said, what if we just made this better instead of swapping to the 120 with its smaller warhead, and thats it, the just took the AIM-7 gave it the wings and the seeker of the 120, and left the OG warhead and booster (over time the booster was most likely improved too but at the time when the 120 came out) teh AAM-4 is just what the AIM-120 was told which guy not wo worry about

You’re using wikipedia to cite stuff? bruh

Wikipedia is good for only one thing - finding actual sources.

I never said I use wikipedia, I used wikipedia as a example. You know people like you annoy me, only hating and jumping to conlcusions without discussing the most simple things.

Idk, could’ve avoided all that by simply using a better example. The fact that Wikipedia was the first one that came to mind and not some other widely used sources for military information such as Air Force Technology or Flight Global is telling. Cheers for the attempt at an insult btw 🍻

There are multiple outstanding A/B reports which should also apply to the C5 and ive seen secondary sources that point to a better seeker for the C5.

Though seeker performance at the moment is basically a balancing tool in the absence of sources. Giving C5 even slightly ebtter notch resistance would go a long way to making it an actual upgrade over A/Bs

I wasnt trying to insult you…

U are correct about derbys being better at short range but u cant roll 120 like a sparrow

It’s honestly insane that most of these reports are over a year old!

I’ve held this view for a while that Gaijin is obviously gimping all Fox-3s in one way or another.

AMRAAMs have proper range, but they lack maneuverability.

Meanwhile pretty much all the other medium-range Fox-3s lack range but have proper maneuverability.

In my mind the fix is pretty simple overall – increase the ability of the AMRAAM to maneuver while keeping the drag low, AND decrease the drag coefficients for all the other medium-range Fox-3s while keeping their maneuverability high.

Yeah… Or even older reports like this one for 9M.

This would help so much right now to keep 9Ms going.

They absolutely are. Especially when it comes to seeker performance.

Another proof of Gaijin gimping the seekers is that Japan didn’t get the AAM-4B with the F-2A. As far as the missile’s flight performance goes, it’s the same (same motor, same fins, etc.), what only changes is the guidance logic (read as ‘‘lofting and lead’’) and the seeker, which is AESA and very resistant to countermeasures. I always said that Gaijin could easily implement it as a copy of AAM-4 with different loft and increased resistance to notching, chaff and multipathing. Of course you would still be able to defeat the missile by notching and chaffing, but it would require a bit more precise angling.

And yet another proof that Gaijin gimps missiles is the SPYDER and its barely functional missile guidance.
