I don’t really think its as bad as people say it is.
Its forward mobility is fine, its no T-80BVM but it can somewhat keep up with the NATO heavyweights (like SEPs and 2a7v). The reverse mobility is absolutely atrocious though.
I think the biggest change from the T-80BVM is the survivability. The spall liners really do make a difference, I’ve survived so many shots into my autoloader side on. Also the ammo placement is a lot better since the T-90M doesn’t store ammo in the fuel tanks anymore and the autoloader is actually shorter, paired with spall liners, sometimes the spalling doesn’t even hit the autoloader.
The T-90M also has a LWR which is handy against heli CAS and situational awareness so you know when to smoke up. Just a neat feature that can occasionally save lives.
Overall its more of a sidegrade than an upgrade trading mobility for survivability.
If I never had a chance to play and spade the TKX (p) then I don’t know if I would still be playing ground, it’s so much more fun than anything in any of the other tech trees i had done before Japan (Germany, Russia, Britain and Italy)
Saying that Russia is the only nation worth playing is just odd, it’s probably the 2nd most boring and similar tech tree from rank 1-8 (after America) in the terms that pretty much every soviet/russian MBT follows the exact same design philosophy, offering very limited changes over the span of about 50 years of Tank development.
Russian top tier is okay, but the tanks especially just don’t feel great to play. I’ve been enjoying other nations a lot more recently, but Russia still has some quirks about it that can make it fun, like the Sprut and the 292.
That russia is busted in War Thunder. And only the wealthy get access to the finest bias. Because you need to be able to dump 1000-2000 bucks on the market to get it.
not so long ago he was complaining the 279 was useless at 9.0
i don’t even think anyone has any strong feelings for/against the IS-7 either, guy had one decent game and ran to this thread like he had something to say
Tbh I find USSR ground forces meh. The combination of crappy gun handling, poor mobility and bad gun depression is just not appealing at all. I regret buying USSR premiums because after few battles I simply gave up grind and did not bother to play with them since. Chinese tree is better alternative to USSR because at least those high tier vehicles have mobility.
USSR ground is the simplest and most consistent tree imo. Probably my favorite, and what I use for event grinding. Air is also very fun, but RIP Mig-23, and Su-27, it aint so pretty up there. But Mig-15/17 is maybe my favorite dogfighter in the game, next to the Canadair Sabres.
Other trees are worth it, just not as consistently good. USSR is like a homemade stew. Delicious all the way through, comforting, but It probably wont blow your mind. Mmmmm, stew…
