Ground - yes, it’s terrible at high tier
Air - no, it’s pretty good
wo’oter - can’t say much, but it’s pretty good too

Kronshtadt

A fake boat that was only ever a skeleton in a drydock, with magical cannons that crush everything. Apparently that is okay because it is Russian and fAkE vEhIcLeS aRe aLloWwEd f0R nAvAl

Just checked that out, yes lol, I haven’t reach top tier in wo’oter but it’s shame that Russians get uncompleted project in game, meanwhile Japan can’t get yamato

Air- not worthy of wasting time
Ground - really fun but as you go in Rank 6 you get worst paring in history of games…so if you can push thru that its gonna be fun

Same with Ground, germany got their Flakpanzer 341 removed, depite having a complete and fully functional hull with the turret being a wooden mockup. The vehicle was intended for mass production, but Gaijin opted to remove it.

Spoiler

Here’s a satirical diss track that leans into the frustration some players feel about War Thunder. It’s all in good fun, written as a mock “roast,” and taps into the grievances players sometimes express:

“Red Thunder Bias”

Verse 1:
Yo, Gaijin, I see what you’re doin’,
Puttin’ all them Soviet tanks out here, just ruinin’.
I load in my Tiger, but it’s hopeless, man,
'Cause y’all got me fighting Stalin’s armored van.
Got angles so sharp, they slice through the truth,
While my shells bounce like lies in a voting booth.
Yeah, I see that Russian armor, bouncin’ left and right,
Got armor made of secrets, or are my shells just light?

Chorus:
Red Thunder, Red Thunder, that’s the game you play,
Make the Reds untouchable, every single day.
You stack the deck, you build the wall,
In Gaijin’s War Thunder, non-Russians fall.

Verse 2:
Got them T-80s, T-90s, breakin’ every rule,
While my Abrams feels like a tin can tool.
You say it’s balanced, but don’t even try,
We know that Russian tanks just “happen” to fly.
I aim for that weak spot, put all my rounds in,
But your Russian bias got them bouncin’ like sin.
Angled pen? Yeah, don’t get me started,
While my shots glance off like they’ve been outsmarted.

Bridge:
Yeah, you got them missiles, spinnin’ like roulette,
Russian tech tree loaded, ain’t nothin’ like a threat.
Pay to win? Nah, this ain’t even funny,
It’s more like pay Gaijin’s bills with ruble money.
And the grind? Man, you hold it like ransom,
In Soviet Gaijin, the game’s a one-sided anthem.

Chorus:
Red Thunder, Red Thunder, no chance to survive,
Unless you pledge allegiance to the Soviet drive.
No place for German, American, or Brit,
Just lines of tanks that don’t fit one bit.

Verse 3:
You keep your devs in the Kremlin’s back pocket,
Every patch note feelin’ like a diplomatic docket.
Give the Reds the power, make 'em OP as hell,
While the rest of us might as well ring the bell.
I load into battle, but I’m already toast,
Might as well just give ‘em the victory post.
Every nation’s tank feels like a fake,
Compared to that bouncy, busted Russian make.

Outro:
So, Gaijin, keep your secrets, keep your lies,
Keep your “fair and balanced” alibis.
But next time you patch, just be upfront,
Tell us it’s Red Thunder and skip the front.
'Cause in War Thunder, there’s one thing that’s true,
It’s all about the hammer, not the red, white, or blue.

Chorus (Repeat):
Red Thunder, Red Thunder, you rigged the game fine,
But we see through the coding, every patch line by line.
From T-34 to the mighty BMP,
In Gaijin’s War Thunder, the Red’s all we see.

This is, of course, meant as a playful jab in the spirit of a diss track!

Normal Roast

Spoiler

Alright, here’s a straightforward roast that dives right into the issues some players feel about War Thunder’s supposed Russian bias and other game balance frustrations:

“The Gaijin Gauntlet”

Gaijin, let’s be real here. You claim War Thunder is a game about “realism” and “balance,” but it’s more like a Soviet-era parade, rolling out Russian tanks that seem invincible and turning every other nation’s tech tree into cannon fodder. Let’s talk about that Russian bias, because it’s like you’ve turned War Thunder into “Red Thunder,” where every tank without a red star might as well have “target practice” written on the side.

Let’s start with your Russian vehicles. These things are the definition of overpowered. T-80s, T-90s, BMPs—they bounce shells like they’re armored with the secrets of the Kremlin. Meanwhile, any other nation’s tank feels like it’s made of recycled soda cans. Ever try firing at a Russian tank? Good luck. You’ll hit that perfect angle, and your round will just bounce off like you’re throwing pebbles at a fortress. But when a Russian tank so much as looks at your armor, it’s like paper. One shot, and boom—back to the hangar.

And the angled penetration? Sure, every nation technically has it, but only the Russians seem to get shots that punch through like butter every single time. It’s like the devs calibrated everything with a bias slider that only goes one way. Try as you might to “angle” or “position” your tank tactically, you’re going to lose to someone rolling in with that ironclad Russian armor that just “happens” to be absurdly bouncy and hard to crack. Balance, Gaijin? That word means nothing here.

Then there’s the grind. It’s not even just a grind; it’s a hostage situation. You make players pay in time and money just to unlock vehicles that still don’t stand a chance against the Russian ones you hand out like candy. And let’s not even start on the pay-to-win aspects you’ve woven into the game. Those “event vehicles” and “premium tanks” are more like ransom demands. You expect players to dump real money and then slog through hours, only to unlock vehicles that feel outdated and outclassed next to the overpowered Russian machines you give away for free in every other event.

And what’s with this exclusivity nonsense? You hype up events, lock vehicles behind insane grind walls, and then retire them forever, making them unattainable for anyone who doesn’t have 24/7 to dedicate to the game. All that does is turn War Thunder into a status competition where the only “real players” are the ones who have nothing better to do. You think this makes the game interesting or “unique”? No—it just makes it a gatekeeping nightmare.

Let’s call it what it is, Gaijin. You’ve crafted a game where playing any nation but Russia is just an exercise in frustration. Everything from tank stats to shell mechanics feels tilted in favor of Mother Russia, while the rest of us are left playing target practice. Every time you patch, it’s the same thing—buff the USSR, ignore everyone else, rinse, repeat. And you wonder why players are fed up?

So go ahead, Gaijin. Keep stacking the deck, keep tuning the game for one nation, and keep pretending it’s all in the name of “balance.” But don’t act surprised when more players call you out. Because right now, War Thunder is less a military simulator and more of a showcase for Russian pride.

Japan would like to talk to you briefly …

Japan has Amagi which itself like the Kronshtadt is an unfinished vessel.

Amagi is also currently the best battleship in game by a massive margin… coincidentally most of the runner ups for that title also happen to be Japanese…

Also, Italy and Germany are two other nations in game besides USSR and Japan that have unfinished vessels. That has never been a thing that was exclusive to any one nation.

Having played US, USSR, Italy, and France, after the new additions to Italy it seems like one of the best trees if you play with everything you can get in each lineup. Hungarian tanks are doing a lot of good things for their lineups.

every nation is worth playing or at least trying the vehicles of

Maybe that used to be the case, as someone who has finished the tree, It was not worth it by the time you hit the end game.

They have listened to the whiners and nerfed the russian tech to death.

A tier 5 tank can oneshot a t-90m spaded.

Russia is underwhelming as it takes no effort to win. It’s vehicles at top tier collectively are superior to other nations. Access to missiles that can be fired outside of SPAA range. Only nation with an SPAA that is far superior to it’s competitors with some nations not even having something beyond 10.0. Sure someone is going to say “but NATO has insane CAS” point being how unbalanced this nation is against anything else. Not saying it needs a nerf but other nations need to have an equivalent. Bring in those subtrees!

Personally I dont like Russian ground vehicles or their gameplay either. The lack of gun depression especially just makes them unplayable for me.

They’re good but definitely a nation of low skill floor, low skill ceiling.

That said, Ive found that when I think “god damn that tank is SO ANNOYING” when I see one like that in games, Russian vehicles have historically been the most common nation Ive had that thought about. (Sometimes these arent even good vehicles, just annoying to fight).

Been playing the T-90M recently and holy hell it feels awful. The same functional armour as any other Soviet tank but mediocre foward mobility, the same abysmal reverse and slugglish reload (esp after the recent reload buffs to others).

Yes it’s stock but apart from some Relikt sandbag shenanigans with upgrades I can’t see it getting hugely better.

I don’t really think its as bad as people say it is.

Its forward mobility is fine, its no T-80BVM but it can somewhat keep up with the NATO heavyweights (like SEPs and 2a7v). The reverse mobility is absolutely atrocious though.

I think the biggest change from the T-80BVM is the survivability. The spall liners really do make a difference, I’ve survived so many shots into my autoloader side on. Also the ammo placement is a lot better since the T-90M doesn’t store ammo in the fuel tanks anymore and the autoloader is actually shorter, paired with spall liners, sometimes the spalling doesn’t even hit the autoloader.

The T-90M also has a LWR which is handy against heli CAS and situational awareness so you know when to smoke up. Just a neat feature that can occasionally save lives.

Overall its more of a sidegrade than an upgrade trading mobility for survivability.

Mobility is a huge problem with Soviet top tier
