Haha, I remember, years ago, in a game with the A6M (I don’t remember which one), I faced a P47D25, and curiously, he was a player who knew what he was doing, since he only focused on maintaining his position by making BZ attacks on me and without getting fixated on turning behind me, while I tried to gain some altitude while maintaining a reasonable speed to keep me maneuverable. In the end, the game ended without us killing each other, since I couldn’t do anything to him, but he couldn’t hit me on my evasive maneuvers (he hit me a few times but didn’t do much damage).
another problem is just the zeros not compressing
esp for the lower ones cuz if a a6m5 dives on you and youre in any not terrible 5.7 you can run away
but if a zero dives on you and youre in some 4.0 it will catch you quite often and a zero at 600kph still outturns most planes so youre just locked in a dogfight with a zero and i dont need to explain how this will kill you
(ik that you can try avoiding it but its still hella annoying)
The Zero FM is bad make no mistake. They should really suffer at speed with even US aircraft being able to out turn them and you just can’t. The early Zeroes are also missing some speed, I’d happily exchange speed for actual accurate stiffening.
With each new WT update they’re getting rid of control stiffening.
109’s don’t stiffen properly.
La’s now don’t stiffen properly.
Zero’s don’t stiffen properly.
I’m sure there’s probably a ton more.

yak fighters probably should also stiffen heavily at high speed due to being made of wood which can flex

at 4.0 theirs guns are so slow you actually stand a pretty good chance at surviving if you keep running lol
and then you read another report which says the Zero can easily keep up with, and outmaneuver all the main USAAF fighters in a downwards spiral lol

So many talks about how shit zero elevator must be in diving but from sources we have “it feels heavy on speed [speed number]” and “we can turn with it on speed above [speed number]” (but question is what mean “turning” because it is united with aileron and rudder)
There was chart with A6M3 rolling from one British document with compare of Spitfire and P-40 and… all planes in game are rolling much faster than there
So it is more question of common standards of WT pilots.
I am even quite that this things should learnt more with original Japanese resources than only US/UK who tested captured equipment
It’s still not clear which control surfaces are affected. The only one I see mentioned reliably are ailerons. In-game they do compress a lot already, your roll rate and responsiveness are severely reduced.
There’s other issues, like the Zero’s gun trigger being on the throttle. So if you want both hands putting force on the stick, you can’t shoot.
Yeah it is true. Right now if enemy start doing wide rolling on diving I can’t repeat this rolls on A6M and in common A6M already rolling worse than most of its opponents
So this talks about “not enough Zero compressing” looks more like copium because it is question of whole game control mechanics
