Id much rather get the V2

tbh i kinda feel more hyped for the sholef since its quite unique, merkava hull, autoloader (as far im aware), stab, and heck 72 ammo.

well thats freaking sick

I mentioned this above

Also, titanium does not offer better protection than RHA, it just has a higher protection to weight ratio.

Because there is no data, the most disappointing article I found was that the IDF has not yet purchased ERA for KE protection.

Yet in that report it claims that current armor values are far from the real protection values and should be increased in both KE and CE areas.

İ believe this is the reason why they didnt bought KE ERA in the first place.

Okay let’s solve this once and for all. Let’s go buy a Merkava and shoot it with various ammunition types and see how it performs

Found another video of the Merkava 4’s reload
It seems to be ~6 seconds including the breech opening time

İf i remember correctly one of the main requirements for bein Merkava 4 loader is to be able to load the gun in at least 6 seconds.

İf we can provide that document maybe we can get some buff in rate of fire.

That is not true at all.

LAHAT had been thoroughly tested on both the Merkava Mk.3 and Mk.4. The IDF chose not to use the LAHAT simply because there is no need for it currently.

edit: the Mk.2D should also be able to use the LAHAT.

why not both?

from what I’ve heard, it requires an FCS update that is not present on fielded Merkava.

At least that’s what a moderator stated.

Edit: On further inspection, it seems you were replying to him lmao

Problem with that picture is that it doesn’t prove that it was actually guided. LAHAT uses SALH guidance, and in order for Merkava to actually guide the LAHAT, sights would have to be replaced.

Not everything in the report is true. Other sources mention the use of ERA for armor packages. This seems more likely given the excessive damage to armor.

Wouldn’t it still be able to achieve constant SALH targeting by constant laser rangefinder designation?
(Where the gunner can just press and hold the rangefinding button)

To do so, sight must be replaced, as the laser rangefinder on a normal tank cannot provide a continuous laser beam for SALH guidance.

Is there a source regarding this or is it a guess/estimation?

In order to fire the LAHAT the Merkava 2 merely requires some upgrades to its FCS. A laser rangefinder/designator replaces the laser rangefinder and increased sight magnification is provided along with software enhancement. If funding is allocated, some five or six LAHATS are expected to be carried by upgraded Merkava 2s.

That’s why I assume the LAHAT in that photo was only tested for launch

That’s talking about the Merkava 2D right?
It’s possible that it was only tested for launch but I suspect that

they were testing the FCS upgrade and its compatability with future Merkava generations in case it was ordered

Unless it is a built in system for the upgraded BAZ FCS which actually makes sense when considering that they have an integrated Air (And ground) IRST system which also has the increased sight magnification that’s mentioned

Integration into the FCS does not appear to be for LAHAT guidance, but rather to provide ballistic data when fired LAHAT from the cannon. There was no addition to the laser designator to guide LAHAT.
