It is November 2025 and it has been roughly 7 years since they were added to War Thunder with little change to most of them since they came. I honestly believe they were just something for Ground RB for slight engagement, they also could have been a good incentive as many players love helis and would have spent money on premiums.
Why don’t we try and pass a “bill” (like in parliaments) that will ‘force’ the hand of Gaijin to give helicopters attention even for a few months, but mostly the following things.
Three things we need the most for helicopters at the moment:
Helicopters added to Air Simulator battles
Finished high detail damage models
Cockpits and virtual pilot systems remodel
Starting with helicopters in Air Simulator Battles, helicopters have had a game mode for them to thrive since the original game modes for them were added that have since been removed and replaced with the current, nearly unusable with how unbalanced it is, Heli PvE. There are a few videos online that demonstrate how rotary-winged would still be safe from fixed-winged aircraft but if you have concerns be free to talk about it on this forum or on the linked forums.
Another problem with helicopters as a whole, is a problem that is also somewhat seen with other types of vehicles but not as bad as with helicopters.
This problem is high detail damage models. The high detailed damage models is a good idea in concept but the integration of this is so slow that the vehicles that need it most are still without it e.g. EC665 Tiger or Rooivalk.
Lastly is more of a problem that would help very much with Simulator and also other targeting. One thing anyone might notice in the cockpit is that the aircraft gunner doesn’t even have a cockpit texture or not even a camera with some. Another highly wanted feature that is already in VR is aiming of the gun with the helmet mounted sight, yes if you are in the gunner view, you can aim the gun but you can barely see with how bad that view is. Some aircraft like the Rooivalk have the same exact cockpit design for both pilot and WSO and the person’s head being in the same position relative to the things around him, so it can’t be too hard to get that properly implemented.
One more thing for most helicopters with HMDs is that they all have the same symbology, for example
1- Rotor blades modeled for RCS so they’re no longer highly resistant to pulse dopplar radars.
2- Rotor blades physically modeled so they can be hit by machine gun fire.
So I didn’t mention it as it is something that can be fixed with some upheaval from the community and I must also say that most people don’t play super high tier helicopters because they take too long to get.
I will add that in a statement soon maybe with can even get someone powerful (i.e. @Smin1080p_WT) to get this pushed and get them to also want to make additional money from people who want to join in the party. TY90s will be annoying but I’m sure the OP WW2 flak will kill all things at top tier ;)
I have already made a suggestion on this and if they are added what Gaijin needs to do before adding helicopter’s to sim. Helicopter’s do not belong in ASB until the issues with helicopter’s are fixed.

You think I haven’t?! I have played it so much I have lost my mind. I just want a properly large area to play my helis in that is still also somewhat realistic
Those ideas are not bad, but I dislike high detailed damage models in helis overall. It supposed to fix an issue where KA-50 can shoot after being destroyed ot 120mm APFSDS just fly through apachie, but it made every heli (other than I thinnk KA-50/52) could be destroy/unable to shoot back with not even that lucky 7.62mm shot, they need to refine HDDM before they implement to every heli out there.
I agree but I doubt they will remove them. I found that it disables helicopters without it like the Rooivalk (my favourite and most played helicopter), you are shot, you survive, you can’t aim or shoot back, you get shot again, you die. That is how it always goes, so the outermost layers of the Survivability Onion are hyper crucial
