Because they gave it an absolutely busted round, that performs way better than it should compared to other similar rounds. Then gave the Yak 9k a very generous flight performance, as in it flies better than some other Yak’s which don’t have the giant cannon.
Oh, they also made the cannon super accurate, and firing it has zero impact on the plane. When IRL the entire plane came apart and the pilots would get knocked around to the point of getting concussions when shooting. Oh, and the accuracy was so horrible, it wasn’t even worth fielding.
The 12.7mm UBS machine gun is well known as easily the best HMG for aircraft in the game, it has excellent fire rate, velocity and damage for a single MG.
man russia air just got the best 7.7, best 12.7, best 20, best +37 gun now.
and some delusional people still try to keep the their cannons at their place, like dude, you still got 2 of the best things in that list
moving up yak-9K to 5.7 is not a solution… Im using it at 5.7 and it kills everything… you can easily dive on ground targets and go defensive if enemy planes will try to attack you. Removing APHE will make it useless… I dont know, when I play germany I simply use ostwinds or G10 to counter it but it is annoyin as hell thats for sure when you need to face it and super fun when you’re using it… WT in essence
Yeah I know I meant that the 12,7mm MG is GOOD plus the 45mm APHE is modelled as HE but with a lot of pen meaning that it’s also good at one-tapping planes.
The 9K should be like the Tempest MKV Vickers P- the Tank gun(s) weigh down the aircraft and affect its flight performance a lot (turning and speed), the guns can pen but won’t spall too much requiring repeated hits, the gun should have a lot of dispersion, the guns should not have ahistorical APHE, the guns should create a lot of recoil that affect the aircraft. That would be how to fix the 9K without completely making it irrelevant.
The Vickers guns are larger, heavier and produce more force, since they fire heavier rounds at a higher velocity and the NS-45 has a muzzle brake while the Vickers gun do not (although this isn’t modeled in WarThunder).
The Vickers guns are also mounted under the wings in large pods, while the NS-45 is centerline with the plane, inside the plane.
The NS-45 should have way worse dispersion, and there is good reason to remove the APHE, but it shouldn’t impact the performance of the plane nearly as much as the Tempest with the 47 mm Vickers guns, specially top speed.
It shouldn’t impact it as much, but it should still affect the Yak 9Ks flight performance substantially alongside being inconsistent with the spalling (HVAP or normal AP, theres still no proof of the 9K having APHE)
