Yak 9 a 1942 tech agains planes like hurricane or mig 3?

Why planes from 1939 - 1940 like spit mk 1 hurricane or mig 3 or yak 1 have to fight yak 9 that was introduced in 1942 thats completly crazy.

Because date of introduction is not relevant - for example plenty of earlier fighters have better armament or manoeuvrability.

And of course lower BR fighters also get to seal club when they are top BR.

You’ll get used to it - don’t be in such a rush to rise up BR’s - there are no magic bullets until you get to the very top one - every other BR gets to face uptiers at some time.

because the game works off what is balanced and not by when something was made.

Year of introduction/service is irelevant, only the vehicle capabilities matters (and players stats)
For reference, these two fought each other irl

Yaks in general (excluding the Yak -3 which entered service in Q3 1944) were irl inferior to most contemporary aircraft - but irl and wt are complete separate words.

WT tries to balance vehicles around their capabilities which includes flight performance, armament and player performance - therefore irl service dates play no role.

In wt Yaks in general benefit from the the fact that they were irl optimized to fight below 4-5 km altitude. Whilst being light and agile (short range = less fuel = even more agile) they excel with rather high top speeds at sea level and good turn rates. In other words: They fit perfectly into the Air RB meta.

Since a longer period their main armament (20 mm ShVak) saw a massive buff - the formerly (historically correct) weakest 20 mm cannon turned into (at least against fighters) a one-tap killer.

Yaks suffered before this buff from very poor damage output and needed a lot of hits to get a kill. Based on this and the rather low ammo count their BRs were lower than their flight performance would justify.

Unfortunately gaijin “forgot” to increase their BRs after the ShVak buff - so it is not unusual to see pilots with good aim to rack up 5 kills with 120-150 rounds - same as BIs at 6.7 with 2 x 45 rounds.

If you struggle to fight Yaks in Air RB in a Spit or Hurricane you might consider changing your engagement setup. As long as you deny head-ons you are able to outturn any Yaks with them. And even if the early Merlins are not good above 5 km - they have still better performance than their VK engines, so dragging fights above 4 km is always a good idea - you can’t outrun them at lower alt if you ran out of ammo or got damaged.

Have a good one!

I saw your AU-1 vs MiG 15 comparison. Besides that the OP refers to planes in the same plane class (=fighter) you might remember the famous maneuver kill of a Po-2 (BR 1.0) vs a F-94 (not implemented):

The Po-2 is also the only biplane credited with a documented jet-kill, as one Lockheed F-94 Starfire was lost while slowing down to 161 km/h (100 mph) – below its stall speed – during an intercept in order to engage the low flying Po-2.[6][15]

Very true

Because russian planes feel incredibly impotent against peer-aircraft when it comes to dates.

Fighting Bf109F4s in I-16s and lagg-3s is not very fun in il-2:BOM.

Until it didn’t, being shot down by other Mig-15’s a few minutes later, so the score was 1:1!!

Which is still a good effort :)

hitting well above its weight class

Meh - weight classes are over-rated - look at all the heavy bombers shot down by SE fighters - much more weight difference ;)

Me looking at il2bos where 1941-42 luftwaffe uses 109f4 against vvs:

Nah we don’t call that balanced

One wonders why eastern front servers are like 16 germans to 4-6 allies, one wonders indeed.

It’s about vehicle performance, hence why the two above are fighting ww2 vehicles

Just wait till you start facing the later La-7 and yacks. Where as most other planes will have engines rated for hundreds of flight hours russian engines irl were rated in the tens of hours, this allowed for STUPID power for a short time. In game this makes them extremely oppressive as they basically act like heli’s due to the engine power they have, basically a death sentence fighting any at low alt as youll have them outrunning everything. La-9s can out run a wyvern in a straight line on the deck.

Maneuverable planes tend to be over tiered. E.g. zero

eh, i still fucking shit up in the zero. Not even that hard either so maybe 5.0 is fine. Maybe move the fatter versions down as they no longer have the manoeuvrability anymore for more dakka.

If only the Yak-9 were genuinely balanced instead of having overperforming flight models and APHE belt types that lack all evidence of ever being used in the first place.

If only.
