Yak- 130: as usual, Russia is ahead of it's time ... just in WarThunder

You know how sometimes you will add a little to a metric to appease people who would otherwise be pedantic and call you out on a minor error? That is me, increasing the actual range I get locks with kab-500kr from 1500m-2000m to what I said, 3km. I basically have to close in to suicidal ranges with the kab-500kr to get a real tracking lock, I can get ground locks fine but thats only so useful

Ah, I see. I wasn’t really calling you out, just saying that I was getting an even shorter track range.

It is a similar track range to Walleyes, but those can be dropped from much further, well beyond SPAA range.

And you’d be lucky to hit anything outside of those distances with enemies that aren’t actively sitting in one place for 30+ seconds or longer

The slightly better range on walleyes isn’t that big of an advantage when it basically only allows you to drop and hit things while flying slower (Yak-130 can just maintain higher speeds)

But the Walleye gives you the OPTION to do this while with KAB-500Kr you are stuck with a bomb that pretty much cannot glide.

In the Advance mode last night, there were a few Osa SAMs that I easily took out because I dropped a Walleye from a good distance on them and then stayed just in range for them to keep looking at me. They of course all died when it got there.

I don’t want to defend Russia, and Yak-130s have done some serious BS, such as my Santal being entirely unable to lock them at rear aspect when they fly directly overhead. There’s a lot of distrust I have in Gaijin built up there, with my Roland often refusing to lock at any angle.

That being said, if we go off of time of service, A-10C would be fighting Eurofighters and Rafales. There’s a way to analyze the issues with the game, and this is not it

Biggest issue is that folks wont analyze, they immediately jump to “but this vehicle is also broken” while accusing those sharing their experience of being cry babies while crying themselves about their comparison vehicle.

I am on the forums regularly and have yet to see any major topics lately discussing the A4 early but the second people are having a tough time dealing with 2-4 130 spawns at a time (using AA that for whatever reason wont lock consistently), then the comparison complaints start.

My own thoughts that may not have anything to do with what you’re saying:

Is the A4 early a problem? I guess. I see it sometimes when I grind france and britain… but I see a lot more 130s and usually more than one at a time. At most I have seen 2 A4s in a match and that’s once in a while. What I don’t see them doing is wiping half the remaining lobby in a under a minute. I do see that happen a lot with the 130s.

It’s like people are scared to address fundamental and underlying issues, I agree
When there’s a problem, people say ‘well what about this?’ and they say it not as a way to address the fact there’s larger problems, but as a way to negate the damage of the other issue

It’s an emotional maturity issue.

There is a place for comparisons, but when it’s all people do it’s an issue.

People’s dopamine hit is waaaay to important.

Thats not really totally true though so long as you gain some decent speed and have a little altitude the glide performance of AGM-62 and Kab500 are basically identical out to ~10km

The only time the walleye glide profile will actually make a decent difference is if you’re super slow

KAB-500Kr has a very limited guidance time of just 40s. Dropped from ~5km alt it provides just enough guidance time to hit a stationary target 7-8km away, and that’s pretty much best case scenario since it is being dropped almost right over the target.

Lower the altitude to ~2km (frequent cloud cover in ground battles) and glide ability matters a lot more.

It’s really not big enough of a difference to make AGM-62 so much better as to make up for the halved number of drops

Israel gets two A-4Es with two Walleyes and a GBU-8, which offers close enough glide at these ranges. That’s just one less.

GBU-8 has really bad glide performance and not many players grind Israeli tree, warhead isn’t big enough to make up for quantity of kab500 drops

It’s much closer to Walleye than KAB-500Kr.

are you sure?

Atleast look at what He’s quoting

Slow and low is where glide parameters actually make a difference but again inside like 10km it’s basically identical

Yak-130 also generates and retains energy much better than high drag delta wing A-4

Raise speed to ~230m/s or increase alt to 4km and reduce distance to 8km and the bombs will be almost the same
