WZ123A(Y) was established in 2001 and produced a prototype in the same year, its design indicators are to catch up with the technical indicators of advanced tanks in the West, namely: 1500 horsepower engine, hydraulic integrated transmission, three generations of stable image fire control, better protection and stronger artillery. The main armament of the WZ123A(Y) is a long-barreled 125mm L/54 smoothbore gun that can fire APFSDS, HE and HEAT-FS.
