Work-In-Progress: Regenerative Steering — Should We Add It? Try It & Leave Your Feedback!

I will add it in doubt, and remove it if it’s not the case, just in case, hahah.

Also not, there are types of wheeled vehicles in the game and these types were added after, some of them can drive as a tank, some have reversible transmission and just three years ago gaijin updated wheeled vehicles and made them loose their wheels, which is a neat addidtion but it nerfs them and it wasnt a feature 15 years ago, so…

Where is my toggleable? I don’t want to loose wheels and suddenly turn at a bad angle. No option? Weird…

from my earlier convo with Aqua, they did say that in this clip the TES only had 1217 horsepower

Misread “neutral steering” changes yeah

I also think the “toggle” idea is a must as well, but I would add one
more thing specifically. The toggle should be a keybind so we can
change it in game, “on the fly” so to speak. Not just limited to an
Off/On thing in the settings . . . this would be my wish for it.

The idea seems sound and is more “realistic” as far as I can tell.
But I have never driven a tank in real life either, so . . . . lol

Well . . . I did drive one of these(before the napalm incident . . true story . .lol)

User mission/modded content, it’s work in progress

Just someone wanted to see the Chieftain Mk. 10

needs to be a toggle, otherwise it will be another realistic mechanic that only affect western tanks and will end up being another nerf. WT itself isnt realistic, doesnt need all that “realism”. IRL its an advantage, in a game such as WT it isnt

Nope, still the same original video. No point remaking it.

Seems slightly too floaty

Good to have it confirmed!

I added the edit to the post, which makes it WAY more shocking.

10 tons heavier
100 less hp
Still better mobility.

All thanks to your configuration of Regenerative Steering!

Have you seen any of the test videos users have posted here in this thread? Particularly this one that shows Challenger 2 TES with regen beat the Challenger 2 without despite the TES weighing 10 tons more and apparently missing 100 HP?

While your video comparing the standard CR2 with the TES was very interesting, would you be up for making one comparing:

TES (Regen) Vs TES (Default) with the same engine power

It would be very interesting to see just how much difference it makes on that circuit that you drove in your regen TES vs standard CR2, without the huge weight difference.

I get that’s probably quite a bit of work so if you don’t want to I understand

And now, in an actual game, what if someone is off to your far side / direct rear?

Leopard’s have a massive FCS restriction to their firing arc, and now will also be unable to quickly turn to get their gun on target when moving, that’s a nerf, and it’ll be something all tanks with NATO humps will deal with when given regen steering, given to a lesser degree as Leopard 2’s. I can already both envision and remember situations where if I had regen steering I’d be dead.

It’s not always about being as fast as possible during normal driving, a tanks ability to react to threats is also important.

Sure, it’s something you can try to avoid through changing your gameplay, but it’s impossible to outright avoid in this game.

If you’re stationary then you just neutral steer, if you’re moving you just turn and quickly youll be able to fire at them

Realistically 90% of the time if someone has a rear shot on you like that you’re dead anyway though

If you’re getting shot in the rear by anything, you’ve likely: had an ally flank collapse/pushed way too forward without backup/been sitting on one corner mid-map without looking around, and are now getting the end result.

It happens, especially since the current maps and modes don’t offer any form of tactical combined arms beyond giving everyone access to other vehicles. Regenerative Steering draws away from the COD brawl-shooter BS and back to actual mechanized warfare.

If dev isn’t closed today I can.

It does feel like it’s sliding a bit all the time but it’s really controllable at the same time. Which is normal for tanks I guess? I mean they are pretty heavy with zero downforce lol

Mainly because you’re not used to looking at how smooth a Chieftain turns like this lol.

And in those same situations you’d be dead regardless of steering system. Regen steering does not remove neutral steering, you still retain that ability, while the current clutch braking may be able to rotate slightly faster with a short and fast turn, regen steering improves upon how smooth it is without losing too much reaction time.

Does feel like ppl comment here for the sake of rejecting it without looking at user examples on the advantages, Gaijin’s current implementation is so non-representative of the finalised product and it’s also just, poor.

Well it depends on the tank obviously but it’s not completely impossible…
