with greece coming to the israeli tree, i feel like the merkava is gonna lose a lot of what makes it unique.
the whole point of the mk4 is its weird protection layout. huge modular armour around the turret, sides and roof, lots of angle, deep composite arrays, all that stuff.
but in game it doesn’t really feel like you get much back for all that weight.
it’s slower and heavier than a leopard, but the frontal turret can still feel pretty average against modern apfsds.
and that’s the part i don’t really get.
with nera/slera type armour, a long rod isn’t just going through one solid block. it can get disturbed over multiple layers, start yawing, bending, eroding and possibly breaking up as it keeps going through the array.
obviously i’m not saying one nera/slera layer is the same as kontakt-5 or relikt.
heavy era is way more violent per hit.
but the merkava has a huge angled array with multiple interactions, so it feels weird seeing russian era get really strong ke and chemical protection in game while the mk4’s giant turret array still feels kinda underwhelming.
and once the greek leopards are there, it gets even more obvious.
you’ll have a tank that is faster, more mobile, has great gun handling and solid armour.
so if the merkava is slower, heavier and still doesn’t really get rewarded with better protection, why would you pick it over the leopard?
i’m not saying the merkava should be invincible or just straight up better.
i just think it should actually benefit from the thing that makes it different.
otherwise it just becomes the cooler looking, slower option while the leopard does everything else better.
