German up armoured jagdpanther
Up-armored by the Germans but only ever used via the British in their testing, so I don’t think this modification has any real stake in the German tech tree.
was designed by germans to counter the new soviet heavy tanks.
so its not a british design. has no place in britain unless we go into captured tanks. which im sure no one wants.
What they were originally designed for is irrelevant. The point is that the Jagdpanther had taken on a new role as a test vehicle for the British, and in doing so had acquired a unique modification that could not be found on any of the German-operated examples.
Let me ask you then, what is your opinion on export tanks?
To put it in an easier context, lets says that this modified Jagdpanther was an export vehicle produced by Germany but only ever intended for Britain. The Germans would have never used this vehicle, as the modification was always intended for British standards and service.
Obviously the REME Jagdpanther isn’t an export vehicle nor intended for British armed forces service, but I think you can understand my analogy here.
british had 3 of the 15 that the germans modified.
Germans had modified this by themselves in germany to counter the soviets.
British just took three of them, chassis No. 13, 14 and 15 (14 did not have its gun and the gun mount was sealed shut) and brought them to england for testing.
its not export.
not intended for britain. theres a lot of lies about this online. a lot of brits want this in their tech tree apparently.
they would have had the war kept going on. i mean come on they came up with this to counter the soviet heavy tank threat.
They got defeated before they could put them to use, and some of the chassis’ were completed under British supervision.
that is all
Well, I did a reverse image search and pretty much all of the results are dated within the last few days or so. So if you do have evidence of this, I’d be happy to change my stance on who it belongs to.
It was an analogy, as forcing a defeated nation to build/complete more examples of their war machines for the victor to test doesn’t seem to be common enough that we have many prior examples to cite.
At the very least, we know that the REME vehicles were finished specifically so that the British could conduct testing on them. But again, if the uparmored Jagdpanther was in fact a German effort like you say then I’d be happy to backtrack.
Which is fair enough, history reminds us that the Germans never seemed intimidated by the downsides of having such conventionally impenetrable armor anyways.
Mockup is mockup and doesnt count.
Cool, tho is there more info and sources to it?
I’ll look into my Panther books
I suppose if you find enove, i could make a suggestion. :)
collecting images of said jagdpanthers
There were 3 of at least 18 Jagdpanthers brought back from Germany including several that were finished onsite by the Germans under British supervision. They were up-armoured with 76 mm plate believed to have come from an armoured aircraft carrier deck. With 272 mm of upper and lower armour they were there to represent the newer Soviet heavy tank threat but otherwise were all operational until they were used up in munitions testing.
These up-armoured Jagdpanthers were used in testing out 6.5-inch HESH rounds in a similar way to the Tiger 2 tanks seen in previous posts. The Jagdpanthers had a further 3 inches of steel armour cemented to the front of them but despite this proved no match for the large HESH rounds demonstrating that a spaced layer was needed to make a vehicle immune to that ammunition type and that due to the direct contact between the outer and inner plate the shockwave was still able to propagate the armour.
We should get them in game. It would give proof as to how badly HESH performs in game.
I saw those posted else where for the British, interesting vehicles.
acc to the fb poster, they were brought to england and finished onsite. finished implies that they had been started before being transported to england. Basically thats my reasoning for why they are german origin. besides the fact that they wanted to better armour them to withstand the soviet IS-2 etc.
plus since there were 18 of them, it stands to reason the british wouldnt be building them, why would they?
for testing even the three here wouldve been enough, as is evident because they brought three to england. 18 seems more like a pre-production batch
I mean if british mains want it they can get it, but it would mean on the other hand that germany should get the challenger with the 130mm cannon because both are tanks modified by another nation (although like you wrote that is even contested for the Jagdpanther) and weren‘t in service
yep, treading on thin ice no matter how u look at it lol. honestly captured vehicles shouldn’t be in game at all
these will be perfect for british tech tree. premium or event vehicle if ive ever seen one.
these modifications were made for British testing so should go to Britain. Same logic as why Sweden has its tiger 2
Brits can get the one without a gun to match their firepower around those BRs
please go for something thats british. fight for fixing your own vehicles instead of taking whats not british. i think weve all had enough colonialism for one earth
