(WIP) Modern IR (FOX2) Missile - History, Performance & Discussion

also asraam still has AOA limits when firing (50 if I remember right) mica needed no limits.

Hu?

That is ASRAAM ENTIRE design philosphy. To outrange enemy SRAAMs.

Knowing that if both sides fired, both sides would probably die. ASRAAM was developed with the idea of firing first and killing first. Before the target can get into range. Bar MICA IR which in fairness, is a BVRAAM with its ARH seeker swapped out for an IIR (its like giving AMRAAM an IIR seeker and calling it an SRAAM). It will outrange every single other actual SRAAM. (I.e Aim-9, IRIS-T, R-73, Python-5, etc etc)

Im not aware of any limits for ASRAAM.

well here’s why they did it

TLDR

France chose a French Missile?

I mean it seems to be cheaper (which makes no sense considering who America is) but the main thing that I gathered from the presentation was that the reason why it was chosen was because of flexibility, something asraam/amraam combo couldn’t do to the same extent that mica would

Uh. MICA IR (Based upon a 30 second google) is around 3-4x the cost of ASRAAM

As for the second, maybe, still sounds kinda like justifying their own missile over others.

(thats why i said that reason made no sense lol).
well considering who the French are, I probably agree with you that it was just France being France and wanting everything to be French

Ah right, I was confused because you mentioned America. They pulled out of the project quite early and have only really been using geopolitical shenanigans to block sales till the BLK6

oh, I should’ve specified and said europe/america (America for amraam, europe for asraam)
cause they were looking at both amraam and asraam together

Oh I see.

Right yes.

just to cover my tracks, this presentation is from the Swiss archives

I mean you can see from the screenshot Kizvy sent that the MICA EM is over 80km so it can’t be 80km.

Actually ends up being 100km

It likely is understated for MICA IR’s range as well similarly.

That Dual pulse motor has kick

I don’t believe MICA is dual pulse until the NG variant.

Yeah, it is not clear whether self-protection means shooting down missiles or if it means the ability to engage a target that is chasing you from behind.

Yeah very vague
