no idea, but it’s in vympels museum as seen in that image, who knows if its a mockup or not.
IMO my ranking of “next gen” missiles when we see them in wt. I’m assuming all of them will get the same seekerhead as all current iir missiles in game (0.25 fov gating + seekershutoff).
- Mica IR NG - 100km, LOAL+Datalink + TVC + Dualpulse motor - need I say more?
- Mica IR - ~60km max range, same advantages as mica ir ng other than dual pulse
- Asraam blk 1 to 6 - 50+km range, LOAL, but only with IOG and no TVC. Insane range + speed imo will matter more than tvc
- R-74m2 - ~50km range, LOAL + Datalink with much stronger motor compared to r-73. Only next gen ir missile with 0.5 second fuse delay, so it WILL be the best in close shots.
- Pl-10 ~ 50kmish range, LOAL (unconfirmed datalink), has similar thrust to mica ir for 3.5 seconds. Expect similar missile to MICA but without datalink.
- Aim 9x blk 2 - 40kmish range with TVC + LOAL + Datalink + GNSS, currently the best overall IIR missile in game on the claws/tads, if nothing changes expect this to be a very good missile.
- Python 5 - 30 kmish range with LOAL, no datalink. It’s pretty mediocre in game.
- Iris-t - likely up to 25kmish range, LOAL, no datalink. Currently is utter garbage on the elde 98, horrendous missile.
The R74M2 is not an IIR seeker.
IK. but it will be modeled the same as all other IIR seekerhead in game (0.25 gatewidth fov + shutoff) because IIR doesn’t exist in the game technically, theyre all modeled with conventional irccm
Poor AAM-5 eternally excluded from 5th gen lists.
whoops completely forgot about it lol. i would probably put it right below aim 9x blk 2
@MythicPi
I recall you saying that the iris-t can intercept missiles - any info on what kind of missiles it can intercept?
Purely looking at range? Sure?
But in a dogfight, like say within 10km? It will beat everything else on that list.
I know for a fact I’d proactively avoid getting too close to a Typhoon or Gripen E slinging IRIS-Ts
Iirc, there is evidence the Typhoon can slave lock to its DASS and fire IRIS-T to intercept ARH missile. ASRAAM in theory would also be able to do the same from the Typhoon, but is geared up very differently, and would struggle more with anything in the 360 degree envelope
why? any modern missile with datalink and iog can do a 360 degree turn and comeback to hit anyways if they miss first pass and if they have enough energy.
And I would take asraam/most other modern ir missiles in any range thats not like 0.5 km, even sub 10km most other ir missiles will actually be better due to their acceleration
okay damn, a/a and s/a missiles is impressive. was wondering if it was only cruise missiles which then I’m like ehhh it’s whatever, but a/a missiles? impressive
It will pull the hardest and is a bit slower off the rail than most, meaning a very tight turning radius.
Others like ASRAAM will struggle to hit things too close because they are very fast off the rails, meaing a bigger turning radius, but IRIS-T simply wont care, you point your HMD and fire.
IRIS-T will without a doubt be the king of the dogfight. It will just fall short in that medium range envelope
And it cues off all of the EFT’s sensors including MAWS, so you dont have to try to find the incoming missile yourself
