I was for the R2Y2’s removal when the game was much more grounded in reality and was far more immersive to where seeing something like this ACTUALLY mattered because it COULD take you out of the match/immersion by seeing it. Nowadays the game is so dilluted with copypaste and the matchmaker doesn’t even bother trying to make semi-historical looking games so why does this matter? If you’re still for removing the R2Y2 then I don’t know what logic you’re running on to mental gymnastic a reason behind it.
Something nobody here in favor of removing the R2Y2 can answer, why? What does the game benefit from?
There are multiple vehicles, which you can call at least questionable, I would like some consistency in that regard.
For example we can have Bf-109Z-1 and Ho 229, but not Re.2006. Copypasting Ostwind II into premium section is absolutely fine now. Trialed stuff (T-80U and Mi-28A) or just consideration like F-16AJ. Ships have special treatment, they say: “projects are fully calculated in advance”, meanwhile many ships could even change their classes and be completely revised into a different project. Stuff like Ho-Ri, maybe something else.
No, I can’t, because none of the “paper” vehicles are good. They all reside in very weird to bad territory. If you expand this definition to include things such as the Ostwind II (which has documentation of existence) then you are not referring to “fake” or “paper” vehicles any longer.
This is how I see it, the R2Y2 V1 should have remained. The R2Y2 V2 and V3 should be hidden unless you previously owned them, and or should be treated like the Maus as they were artist designs who should remain credited for them. So yearly or come back 1 time every 2 years.
However, the R2Y2 V1 already has much information ->Engines were already available.
2 the aircraft would only require minor modifications to be converted from a propeller to a jet engine.
Remove them, sure. Add options to their suspended armament too, that’s fine. A little reward for people who were here to get them.
But they should be removed simultaneously as their replacement is added. Preferably something more or less unique, too. Copypasta from Thailand is meh, whatever. At least bother to add something with a bigger change than “it’s got different missiles now”.
They have no replacements. The F-84 is not a suitable replacement. It’s far worse in every aspect than the R2Y2’s. The other 2 aircraft do not count as they are BRs higher than the R2Y2.
I think the biggest problem with the R2Y2 removal is Gaijin’s lack of consistency. Sometimes paper vehicles are OK, sometimes they’re not. Sometimes they’ll make up a plane (AJ) when more “realistic” options exist.
Personally, I’m OK with paper vehicles being added to the game. I view the game more as a history of military vehicles than any kind of simulator where my immersion can be broken, so seeing the full variety of domestic vehicles, even ones that were never completed, is fine by me.
But the removal of the R2Y2 does follow Gaijin’s statements. In fact, people have been asking for their removal for a long time on the very grounds that they were never built. Even before the new forums Gaijin stated that they were looking to replace them. So I’m not sure why people are suddenly surprised that this is happening.
Again, this problem wouldn’t exist if Gaijin was more consistent with their implementation of paper vehicles.
This is what i’m most affraid for… They will replace them with easy C&P, thus decreasing the amount of unique and domestic vehicles even more. While us (the community) have to play the same vehicle for the 10th time in a row…
Not only that - they are removing 3 vehicles, nothing states we get 3 in return, or when we get a replacement.
The vehicles will be removed on April 30th 2025. So that means that, if the upcoming update doesn’t have a replacement, the Japanese TT will have a gap for 2 months before the summer update, which also doesnt confirm if a replacement is coming.
Not only that, but the R2Y2’s are better then the F-84, with gun power and manouvrebility, which the F-84 doesnt offer.
The F-84 is simply a 10 C&P plane that has to be grinded for the i-cant-count-how-many-times.
So yeah TLTR:
Gaijin doesnt state when replacements are coming (might be one update, or it even be a year+),
Gaijin doesnt say if we get 3 vehicles in return for the 3 removed,
If, and just, if a replacement comes, nothing says it will be unique/domestic. Its most likely to be C&P again.
As much as I’d like to keep the R2Y2s it sets a bad precedent. Two of them are completely fictional; the V1 is the only one proposed in reality and it’s unclear if construction ever started.
That doesn’t mean japan is out of options, the Ki-201 had enough of it built to be added and would fit into Rank V (albeit not at the R2Y2s’ overtiered BR of 8.0).
