Why only small or restricted maps?

Depends on what BR you are playing.

When in the 3.7-6.7 BR range I find my Russian garage gets stuck on maps like Ash River, Carpathians, Attica, Frozen Pass or Maginot line where the horrendous gun depression of Russian tanks is a huge handicap.

Vertical red lines added for clarity.

Top tier GRB and they give a single cap map with 1.5 km² total play area.
If you want to exclude some of the spawn it gets even smaller, perhaps only 1 km² including buildings(so smaller again).

One team gets the advantage, is easily able to shove the other team into their cramped spawn. SPAA can’t spread out and cover the sky, they are bottlenecked in their own spawn making it extremely easy to counter. winning team can sit and watch a few exit lanes from spawn or even push into spawn and that’s it.

Maybe if you’re a big fan of 1 death leaving, just holding W and then dying and exiting the match you might love maps like this. But I never see them being very balanced at 12.0

To me this screams “we don’t play our own game”

This map I just use binocular to alight sight to shoot through containers, else I wouldn’t even bother spawning

I hate those maps too. But the players are to blame, not Gaijin.

Why are the players to blame for Gaijin blocking off large sections of the maps?

Because the reason they block them off is that players complain all the time about being killed by things they can’t see, not to mention simply voting with their feet, avoiding or banning maps that aren’t CQC fests.

Sure, on the forum we prefer other things, but you have to understand that we are a super tiny minority of the playerbase.

Why do you think everyone goes A on Advance To The Rhine, or Abandoned Factory? People want quick, better yet, instant action. Gaijin is a company and just gives them what they want.

OMG I hate playing on Abandoned factory because of that stupid lemming-train - even when the single cap is by the water. Just. So. Dumb.

That’s the CODification of War Thunder.

I never got insulted in chat for killing someone in CQC in a Panther or Tiger, but I did have plenty of “pleasant” exchanges for killing people in a bushed up Dicker from afar… You know, its intended playstyle.

I started playing in 2022. In 2023, playing on the big Fire Arc, I got my personal record of long distance - I killed a T26E5 with the Jagdtiger at 2750m, broadside of course .

If I was starting to play today, I would never ever get that experience.

Getting that particular map at top tier is hell i mostly play spaa now becaue theres no point in actualy playing tanks when your just going to get killed by a hstvl or 2s38

in my useless and ignored opinion lol

Maps are being created to push gameplay, to allow as many matches as possible in order to reduce waiting times.!

ALL maps are being strategically adapted to force players to engage. All areas that benefit from any sort of cover and or advantage (from either side) such as Trees, Bushes, Hills, Rocks are being adjusted to force gameplay.

Now I don’t know if its because of people complaining or inexperienced and not willing to learn - but that shouldn’t effect the skill level required to play the game and or to people who have invested time effort and money into the game.

That said, I really don’t know where to turn to anymore, will the powers ever stop this regression? honestly no clue.! But in my opinion its now becoming far too plain and boring, every map becoming the same drive shoot die and forget anything and everything else.!

Case in point - easter Europe map, Middle area of bushes, you (or anyone) could hide in these and get a few fraggs before the game is up, Now - nope! not a sausage - open to every single person and to CAS!

I know we cant change anything in this game, but i wish a “realistic gamemode” as a daily event like SB ground. With bigger maps and not mixed nations (semi historical matches) and WAY longer matchtime. Now we have battles which are mostly in 7-6min over.

They know, but they or the developers are very lazy in creating maps for MBTs, there are good maps for MBTs, Fulda, Eastern Europe, Poland but need changes, Maginot Line but need many improvements, but I will not blame them much for there are people who understand little about tank combat and like to play on maps with a size of 500 square meters with 16 tanks killing each other, I do not even say my opinion on that

War Thunder is becoming a game of constant melee combat and it’s really making me angry, because that system of marking preferable maps is useless, every match the maps are smaller than the World of Tanks Blitz maps, it feels like a melee combat between cops and robbers at all times all this because certain people love it, well if they like it they could migrate to arcade or World of Tanks, but since I don’t rule anyone’s game I can do anything, they could even say “go play SIM” yes of course I will obviously stand still 5 to 8 minutes waiting to find a match every time, and they are playing top tier in GRB it’s getting tiring, (Get a fast tank > go to an OP position > destroy everything in a corner > get a plane > do CAS and destroy everything on the ground because there is no one from SPAA because they died in the respawn because the enemy can shoot from one SPAWN to another)

I wonder how long it’ll be until they allow premium account users unlimited map bans. THAT would be a feature worth renewing my expired subscription for. I wouldn’t be shocked if one day premium users can even have optional smaller BR spread in matchmaking.

Some maps in war thunder be like

I have a premium account with me many times, and I can only ban a single map, if I could ban multiple maps I would ban all the very small or poorly designed maps, I remember being in another topic when a guy gave a cool idea, simply gaijin could create an option like the night battles option, but this option would be like playing on larger maps and longer matches, where matchmaking would give preference to larger maps

Preference ain’t enough in my book - I want and would pay for the ability to choose exactly what maps I will and won’t play on, no matter how long it makes my own queue times.

Exactly what I want, I’m also willing to pay and play only where I want, that is, real maps and not tank playgrounds.

pretty certain that map exists already lol Eastern Europe lol

I’m almost ready to give up on WT.
It’s super fun at tier 4 and below, but the higher BRs mainly use the same cramped maps with close quarter combat—it’s just not fun!
And in the last few years, it’s just gotten worse and worse. I mean, who the hell wants to play Abandoned Factory at top tier?! Or some or these red-zoned nightmares?
