Why isn't there a cup/league/rank system in War Thunder?

The issue has always been queue times!!! Nothing else, nothing more! War Thunder has multiple modes, 4 servers, and 10’s of BR brackets in each mode. Adding a ranked matchmaking system with tiers would multiply the matchmaking divisions and make matches IMPOSSIBLE.

Doesn’t it bother you that half your team disappears after 2 minutes?
What exactly does “increased queue time” mean? I’m fine waiting 5 minutes for a solid 20-minute match. That’s way better than waiting 1 minute for a 2-minute joke of a game. It’s solvable everything else is just excuses and theories.
Instead of 15v15, why not go with 10v10 or 8v8? You could turn one trash match into 2–3 decent ones.

These BR systems should really be phased out even the basic Tier system is better than this BR clown show.

Also, ranked should be treated as a new game mode not something that replaces the current one.
If someone wants to play with 1 tank premium players, let them no one’s stopping them. Same goes for ranked.

Ranked motivates most players more, and there’s less quitting because of the penalties.
Look at DOTA queues 5-10mins and people still manage.
Let’s drop this “increased queue time” nonsense already

See every competitive FPS as a reason why.

It opens a market for Cheating, Boosting and Smurfing. It also always ends up killing the casual playerbase as it becomes near-impossible for you to play a match with subpar stats if a teammate knows you have them. Nevermind the fact that everything ends up becoming related to rank: “You are Bronze so you can’t talk”, “You have a .9KD so you suck” that will bring down players and push most away from it. You might not even need to smurf, just run a script that Js you out or crashes you, picks another vehicle and requeues. Ruin your own stats so you can play in lower ranked lobbies.

As much as I LOVED Siege, Valorant and COD- it really doesn’t work for everyone. It slowly poisons the game, infecting the community’s casual players as suddenly everything revolves around this magical icon that says “Champion” underneath it. Not a high rank? All of a sudden your opinion doesn’t matter.

And, this is Gaijin. They will find a way to make a boatload of money from this, leading to ranked rewards and more P2W vehicles dominating the meta. All of a sudden you have one good premium vehicle absolutely demolishing everyone who doesn’t want to spend money on it.

*Not to mention that a Competitive system needs instant responses and quick thinking. See Siege, some characters become unplayable in Ranked (Castle, Clash, etc.) because they have a glitch or an exploit. In a game like War Thunder where there are thousands of vehicles and BR changes come by every 2-3 months? Yeah, not happening. If a vehicle is grossly undertiered, it takes Gaijin months to fix it. Or for them to decompress the BRs.

I never said “increased queue time”. I said that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to create a match if a SBMM system was added. I don’t think you understand the math here. You’re like a child wanting candy, not understanding it costs money you don’t have.

I personally hated it if you mean “ranked battles” or smt because everybody used full real control in ARB duels :/

It was really annoying to deal if you keep using instructor.

We have a kind of SBMM in wt - you might check these posts:

The 100lvl 5kd tryhard players are an inssue within any community, so rank system sounds like that would make them meet lowlvl newbies less. But that wont eradicate the problem anyway, and will make it harder for balancer, which works bad even now. So idk…

so… thats where war thunder is atm?
and it does not even have any rank system to begin with.
That makes that stat difference somehow viable as EVERYONE plays same matches.
And wont it be like that if players did play mostly against their own skill group?

A way less common occurence than at top tier where entire teams are comprised of lvl 10 Andies.
Though I’d love to see less top tier premiums in my matches, or none even. Would lead to decently balanced matches for once.

You mean how competitive games dominate the world of gaming and e-sports ?

This is a player vs player game, so it’s obvious to expect it’ll be competitive.

Cheating is already a thing in WT as it allows you to grind faster. Latter two are fairly easy to detect as well.

That’s the thing, if you divide people by their skill level the difference between good and bad player in any given rank will be much lower.

Really good players would play with and against really good players.
Same thing for dead weight players playing at “Bronze”.

This is a behavior that’s really easy to pick up, so issuing weeks/months long cooldowns for repeated offenders would steer people away from that.

?
If Gaijin wanted to make premiums P2W they would already. Ranked play influences nothing in that regard.

Making Gaijin push out actually good updates and more balance patches is a welcomed thing.
Right now they’re diverting resources from that to making gross anime content and doubling down on the DOA game mode project.

SBMM makes things more competitive and as a result bring and hold more people in as they get invested.

PvP games are competitive by design, so you running away from the competition tells me you have a problem with that concept as a whole.

It has also led Call of Duty into irrelevance, their latest release is empty when compared to their average numbers.
The gaming community is exhausted of playing every game like it’s a final, if you’re not, then congratulations, you’re part of a minority. Sometimes, people want to play games to have fun.

Not running away from competition like at all. Any game as balanced (or lack of) as War Thunder’s extent is just not suitable for competitive modes, end of story. Jesus, just look at the “competitive” scene, it’s just dull tournaments with cherrypicked lineups to create a sense of balance, because if there was no restrictions, players would use one or two nations at best.

Besides, OP has been ridiculously clear his problems are not exactly related to facing people better or worse than him, he’s mad over game design flaws which your magic SBMM won’t solve.

Something tells me you should get your personal arguments somewhere else.

I don’t think SBMM is much to blame there, just ask some of the most played multiplayer games in history.

I hope you do have some numbers to back up your minority claim, because from what I’m seeing competitive games are one of the most played ones out there that actually retain players for months and years.

People can have fun while playing competitively.
Just because you can’t for some reason, doesn’t mean it’s somehow true for every person on the planet.

That’s what happens when a developer is more focused on pushing out anime trash and copy paste content than actually balancing the game. It can be easily done but why would they ? They’re sitting on their asses pushing out slop and still getting heaps of money.

He’s mad about new players facing level 100 players (which he thinks equals to more skill).
SBMM would definitely make a split between veterans and fresh players just starting up the game.

You can always stop playing and go to competitive shooters to prove yourself if you’re so mad we don’t have SBMM :)
I’m glad we don’t have a fully implemented SBMM slop. You don’t need to prove you’re better than someone else at every game you play.

Wrong. He’s complaining over 1DLing mostly. His complains are structural and related to balance, and its solutions are nowhere related to SBMM:

SBMM is not needed. And if they dare to implement it, then the game’s business model has to change, as the stock grind of vehicles is literally an act of sabotage against your skill level.

No, i don’t want a sweatfest every game just because i am better than the lobotomized average.

You don’t, but what you need is to provide players with fair matchups.

I see a lot of complaints that could be fixed with SBMM.

It would be specially useful for lower BRs where new players can face level 100s in a match and get seal clubbed.

Well the giant gap between players’ skills cannot be solved in any other useful manner.

just one that tries hard in the game and doesn’t want to play chill and casual and I feel bad when I get more than 8 or so kills in low BRs against new players.

Some of them can’t contribute to the team even if they want to either because they lack the skill

SBMM is needed to make sure lobbies are properly matched and that everyone has equal chances of success.

If SBMM forces Gaijin to change their business model that’s actually another pro of it.
Right now, pushing anime/copy slop for easy cash is pretty much a cancer tissue that’s growing and growing by each update, I wouldn’t mind removing that.

That can be done by balancing the game, not by turning the game into another generic sweatfest.

I quoted that with the right answer

A good thing about low BRs is that the skill ceiling is reasonably low as well. If you get stomped at those ranks, most of the time is because of map positioning, not because of well placed shots nor on-edge reflexes.

Or the vehicles. 1DLeavers are known by not having great progress on their tech tree. Taking the convenient view to make your point does not make it compelling.

Nope. It’s already a tossup.

Maybe for you, but they won’t give up their business model because you want to sweat on their game.

Good luck on attempting to cut their revenue because you play like you have something to prove.

You can balance the vehicles all you want but that doesn’t balance out the player skill levels.
16 fresh players against 16 veterans is highly unfair, even if vehicles on both sides are identical.

That’s not the right answer.
No one got good over night and became as good as veterans with thousands of hours.
The path to getting good should be balanced as well, which is the core problem that SBMM solves.

Positioning, awareness, aim, etc. all increase with play time and people with highly different skill levels should be placed in separate games.

You can have all the vehicles you’d want but if your enemies are much more skilled than you, your chances of success are slim.

True, Gaijin is unlikely to give up their anime/copy slop as long as there are enough pigs to eat that slop.

I already told you what’s this all about.
PvP game cannot be properly balanced if you don’t include player skill in that as well.

That simply doesn’t happen.
I’m over your rationalization.

Thats just a scenario which is not going to happen.
SBMM ruins every game for everyone who isn’t a total giga potato.
Most matches will be mostly average people, thats why they are average, mixed with worse and better people.
Which is fine.
